We’ve got to get back to the Truth and the Authority and the Power of God’s Word. Here Paul says in1 Timothy 4.8, “Physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things - in the present life and in the life to come.” Godliness is the most important, but it’s interesting that Paul slips in here, that physical training is of some value… When you read this, I shall be well past my 91st birthday. I’ve just had a medical check, and in everything I scored ‘green’ like a car going through an MOT test - satisfactory, good to go! They had nothing to add, they almost pushed me out of the surgery so as not to waste their time! I do believe we have a responsibility to respect our bodies, look after them - because Scripture says our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Ghost! I try not to abuse my body, I look after myself. I take physical exercise. I took up skiing when I was 50 - I did give up at 80 - I sail boats, I walk a lot, I go for prayer walking. You can pray on your knees, you can pray sitting down, you can pray anywhere, but I like the physical exercise of walking and praying.

But most important, Paul says hold fast to the promise for this present life and the life to come: “This is a trustworthy saying that deserves FULL ACCEPTANCE - put your hope in the Living God, who is the Saviour of all men, and especially of those who believe.”
