I doubt even the Russian military really know what their losses are.

In a world of lies, only time can tell how much soldiers have died on both sides.

Russian age demographics were pretty bad at the beginning of the war... Losing 100, 000, 20-30 year old men on top of the 900, 000 that are injured or left is going to cause catastrophic consequences down the road. The birth rate and lack of working-age males is going to be felt for at least an entire generation or more.

More then what Russia claims, Less then what Ukraine Claims.

It depends on what you call 'Russian soldiers', Russia doesn't count those from the annexed parts of Ukraine, nor Wagner, nor the many thousands of foreigners paid by Russia, unlikely that it counts many of those taken from prisons.

if Rissia werent losing substantial soldiers why would they need to recruit soldiers from India, China, Cuba, and North Korea? as we know they are.

Not enough to let Pootin stop sending them to the meat grinder unfortunately. A true horror for both sides.

It's ironic how Putin publicly laments the loss of the 130 lives in Moscow, which is tragic, but fails to acknowledge the tens of thousands he sends to the battlefield to get slaughtered to keep him in power - under the guise of defending the motherland.

The first clarification required is what is meant by "russian" casualties. Russia reports russian armed forces losses but not DNR and LPR losses. Many russian conscripts and contract soldiers found themselves in DNR and LPR with documents showing them as DNR or LPR forces. They will not get reported by Russia. Ukraine, on the other hand, will report all enemy casualties as russian unless the corpse has PID as non-russian. The US and UK have some independent means to observe and analyze casualties on both sides. IMO casualty report quality is better for UA than russia. Most likely, both sides under report their own casualties. It may be that UA has better count of russian losses than russia has.

The traditional rule that you have 3 wounded soldiers for every dead soldier probably doesn’t apply in this war. Russian soldiers frequently complain on their Telegram channels that after an attack the wounded are simply abandoned. Volodomir Zolkin has interviewed Russian soldiers who only survived because they were captured by Ukraine. The dead to wounded ratio for Russians could be 1:2, or as bad as 1:1. Another source for casualty numbers could be the Russian health ministry which reports the number of amputees each year. That number has dramatically increased since the war began.

Many of the injured later die from their injuries. Even there, Russia is probably significantly above Ukraine, as the healthcare is lousy.

The worst thing is that Putin will see escalation as the only way out. He's in too deep.
Such a sad situation.

Do keep in mind this state nothing of Ukrainian losses which are obviously much higher but since Ukraine refuses to release public info on KIA instead saying a ridiculous amount of 31k KIA, we have to rely on whatever slips through the tight net. Around 2 months ago a mayor stated on Ukr news site 1:1 that KIA was around 500k and if we look at sat images of cemetery plots for military personal and calculate distance per plot then do basic multiplication we do come up with a ballpark of 500-700k KIA and since Russian KIA follows the 3:1 rule (3 wounded per 1 killed) than Ukraine has 1.5 million casualties, this paints a very stark difference than what we are being told. Remember Ukraine has had 10 different mobilization efforts and has now passed a full mobilization for anyone over 25, Russia only had 1 partial and no evidence has come of a second one. Also to levy a criticism if you're going to bring up T54/T55 then do your research on how Russia has used them, they're not being used as tanks, most are being used as mobile artillery units or have had turrets ripped off and replaced with AA mounts, i've seen one that was packed with explosive and remote driven to Ukrainian trenches and blown up to create a breach (it worked).

The Russian military is known to leave their wounded and dead ☠️ lying in the field to rot; they were listed as missing in action or simply ignored. I believe your number are consequently an underestimation. Great video that explains a lot.
