What is Swell Hell? New York City Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Matthew Schulman, discusses something that many people experience after plastic surgery - "swell hell". This is the swelling that occurs long after the initial post-operative swelling disappears It usually begins a few months after surgery and usually when people begin increasing their activities. Swell Hell is normal and while annoying, it is not dangerous. This video will help you understand what this is and why it happens.

I’m actually 3 months post op this coming week. Just in the last week I have felt this. I have been feeling so defeated bc I couldn’t believe everything I have went through and then to see this. It’s been very defeating. This gives me some hope.

I just made 4 months post op and I am in swell hell. I was feeling exactly like what you described. Swelling was gone down, tummy was flat and I was feeling great, like myself again. Then....boom! This swelling happened and I felt so defeated after all my hard work, losing 40lbs after surgery. So glad I found this video!

I am 7 weeks post-op . MY surgeon said that I can start removing my garment, sleeping w/o it, do not have to wear it if I am laying around and start doing my core exercises like walking and such, and only put it on when I am active. He said the goal is to stop wearing it completely after 2 weeks. Well i didn't wear it for 2 days (laying around) starting swelling a bit, put it on to go to work, was active all day, came home and now I'm major swollen with a slight fever. this is crazy. Thanks for the heads up.. I had a tummy tuck 7 weeks ago, only some swelling low right now, mostly gone… I won’t be concerned if I see this crop up later now…😉
