In Indian mythology, Mizar and Alcor are known as Vashistha and Arundhati (wife of Vashistha). The two stats are known for their closeness and synchrony that in certain Hindu wedding rituals, the stars are pointed out to the wedding couple.

thank you so much, I had a hard time understanding why, while viewing the Big D that sometimes it was right side up and then up side down. Didn't realize that, of course it would change with season and earth ordination

Excellent video and story telling for the Dipper stars, in reality, those are just stars far away from us, and coincidence is they form some shape or pattern, which human can relate to stuffs they have seen in human life.

Polaris or north star in indian astrology is called Dhruv(meaning: axis or fixed) star.
Similarly there is another star in south which never changes its position called agasthya (meaning : having no obstacle before). This also corelates to the less land form in southern hemisphere.
Namaste 🙏

UK / Europe = The Plough

PS - just to muddy the waters further, the term 'Big Dipper' in the UK commonly means a rollercoaster. No common term for 'dipper' as a food utensil. Big Dipper is really just a USA term.
