'Gallery of Maps' Hallway, Vatican, Italy [HD]

“Italia totius orbis regio nobilissima” or ... “Italy is the most noble region in the whole world” were the inaugural words of Pope Gregory XIII in1583.

120 meters of pure visual wonder, equally grandiose are the fresco panel maps along the walls. The fresco scenes that line the
barrel-vaulted ceiling depict saints, apostles, martyrs and other figures of Christianity. The figures within these frescoes can be linked to their location on the map, which is found on the wall
just below the painting.

The significance of these frescoes serve as a Bible story atlas
for popular Christian events. The focus of the gallery is to relate each fresco to a region of Italy. This shows how Rome was
the founding place of Christianity and epicenter of Catholic teaching.

The gallery was painted from 1580 to 1583.
