Overwatch 2 Makes me MISS Loot Boxes..

The most recent Halloween Event brought with it more overpriced cosmetics for all of us to dig into. And of course, with previous offerings already having been reason to a lot of negative discourse, it is no surprise that these new cosmetics created yet another uproar.

On the back of a very unsatisfying battle pass, these news only serve to add oil to the fire. So let's talk about how I believe this came to be in the first place.

The marketing is actually illegal in a few countries. In Australia for example you can’t label something as a bundle without the items within said bundle being able to be acquired separately.

Also they aren’t allowed to mark down a brand new product, it has to have been released for a certain period of time before you can give it a sale price.

So very shortly they’re going to have a PR nightmare on their hands like battlefront 2.

I completely agree, the new monetization and battle pass is awful. I loved back in OW1 being able to hop on, play my fill, get a few loot boxes from the arcade, levelling, and flex role queue, and then whether or not I got the cosmetics I wanted, I was earning credits so that when an event rolled around, I could guarantee I got the skin(s) I wanted from that event.

Now it's basically a second full-time job, I can't miss a day for my *Leisure Activity*, and I have to work for weeks/months to get _one_ skin. F2P models work best when you want to put in a couple bucks to support the devs, not when you feel compelled to.

Agree completely- if blizzard would just let us pay once to play and then have everything else be free I would like it so much more

I’d honestly pay them $40-$60 for Overwatch 2 if it means they get rid of the battle pass and go back to loot boxes. People that think a cash shop where 2-3 legendary skins equals the price of a normal game are insane. They should have never gone free2play. Hot take to most. Good take to those that ACTUALLY played Overwatch 1.

I want player levels back. It was the one small thing you'd still "progress" through in OW1 after you start only getting duplicates in your lootboxes.
Every match, win or loss, would still mean you got something out of your time. I get the "lol gold border in silver" argument but there's so many ways to keep the system while removing the toxicity surrounding it, make them display only on your (public or private) career profile for all I care.

I didn't really like lootboxes, but the currency towards earning skin was a massive part of the incentive to play.
If they just give us ~200 legacy credits each level, that would make an enormous impact on the sense of reward

Honestly, saying that you miss loot boxes is a huge statement that tells you how bad it is now and days. I agree with what he said about the game. It's fun again but after getting some exp for my battle pass I have no motive to play anymore really.

This is absolotly how I feel about Overwatch. I put 1200 hours into overwatch 1 in the last ~2 years. I played overwatch 2 for a week and stopped. With overwatch 1, I always felt that I was being rewarded with lootboxes, even when it took a couple dozen hours of playtime to get anything relevant for my mains. In overwatch 2, the rewards offered are enough coins to buy a single legendary skin in a year if you do every weekly challenge (and im not playing arcade). I was considering buying the battlepass when overwatch 2 came out, but when I looked through what it had to offer, it had a grand total of zero items for my mains. Not even a player icon or voiceline and Reinhardt is not an uncommon main.

I agree with most of what you said but I kind of like that I don't see my SR change after each round. But I still want to be able to see the ranks of other people that are in my game. At the same time I feel like people get triggered less when they can't see the ranks or if people are in groups.

We definietly need better free cosmetic progression though (and I'm saying that as someone who bought the battle pass). And I agree that a catch up system for the battle pass would fix a good bit of the issues with progression.

Funny thing is this practice is illegal in some countries, they are selling a bundle with no way to buy the individual items, also instantly selling something at a discount

What baffles me most regarding (the lack of) progression is that players do not even have a level anymore. I feel like leveling up (even without any reward other than seeing a number go up) is the bare minimum of progression.

Something also funny is that their kiriko bundle is illegal in some/many countries. Law says you cannot have a reduced price unless that item has had its original price for a set amount of time AND to have a bundle you must be able to buy everything in there separately.

releasing products on discount (which in this case the Kiriko witch skin bundle) is illegal under the law, so blizzard still commiting to breaking them it seems, blizzard should know better . . . oh wait
