The true is that a lot of riders in the 80s and 90s got injured and/or died due to riding without considering safety conditions 1st.
A lot of "experts" here say something like "it´s not that hard to ride in the rain", one thing is to ride with friends in a small group, another very different is going full speed in a big peloton, the accidents in a Paris-Robiuax is a good example, no one wants to miss one of the favorites due to an stupid weather related accident.
