Dehydrating Food Grapes, Garlic Scapes and Salmon Jerky

I just received an inexpensive food dehydrator and I'm having a lot of fun using it so far I have made raisins, dried Garlic Scapes and made Salmon Jerky . Right now I'm dehydrating blueberries. You can pay a lot of money for these things but I went with the cheapest I could find. $35.00 and it seems to be working very well. As summer goes on I plan to dry a lot of things from the garden such as peas, beans and herbs.

Thank you very much good luck with your dehydrating. I find it a simple process and I have always been happy with the things that I have done.

Greetings with Gratitude, I am a complete newbie with a dehydrator. Your presentation eases my anxiety about getting it right because I feel as if i'm being coached through the process instead of being told how to do the process. This video works for me. I'm going to work the video. Awesome across the board.

Ah! Lefty! One day we will rule the World!

I'm heading off to investigate dehydrators now because that method would be very useful to preserve a lot of my stuff. Great video.
Best Wishes, Brendan.

@fleursdegigi Thanks I've been using them when I do rice in the rice cooker and they are very good.

Yes I still have it and it works just fine, very basic but it is fine for my needs. I'm looking forward to doing tomatoes this summer because someone told me they dehydrate them then process them it the food processor to make a powder to make tomato soup from, sounds like a good idea to me.

I think scapes are a surprise to everyone when they first grow garlic. Thanks for the tip I think I will try the parchment paper this year anything that makes clean-up easier is a good thing. LOL

I too have a nesco dehydrator and find laying out a clean towel on the table and in one quick motion flipping the tray upside down on it is the best way to empty the dehydrator tray. (works with peas & corn too) You may need to buy the small screens that lay in the bottom of the existing trays.

Hi, I'm growing garlic for the very first time, and didn't even know about scapes. Thanks for the info :) . I use a very old Ronco dehydrator and it's still going strong. Whenever I dehydrate anything small with the potential of falling through the grids, I line the trays with parchment paper. Food won't stick on it, and clean-up is easier. When grapes are in season and cheap, I always dehydrate my own - way, way better than store bought.

@baconsoda Thank you. The sooner we rule the better the whole world is designed for right handed people. Last year I tried to dry blue podded peas to use in winter soups and they turned black before they dried our weather was too humid. Growing them again this year along with shell beans s o I thought the dehydrator might be just what I needed. So far it seems to be working really well.

A tourist once encountered the Queen doing some personal shopping outside one of her estates and she said lady you look so much like the Queen you could be her double, to which the Queen replied, "Thank you that is most reassuring."

I'm Canadian but live on the Maine - New Brunswick border so a lot of people think the accent is a Maine accent.

Hey Dale - Hope you are doing well.  Just found garlic scapes at my local farmers market and I can't wait to try them.  I am going to dehydrate some and I am going to use some in a stir fry.  Thanks for all your great videos.  Take Care, K

@LTTPUK No this little dehydrator is only 400 watts so no longer than it would take to make a full batch of raisins wouldn't cost more than a few cents. Since you are quoting in pounds I assume you are in the UK where energy costs are very high compared to what we pay over here.

Well that does it I won't have to make any more LOL. Thank you.

@cooper68ns I used some of it yesterday in some rice that I cooked in the rice steamer and it gave it a nice mild garlic flavour.
