The UK government has raised new questions about the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine for young adults.

The UK's leading health experts have issued new guidance following evidence that in extremely rare cases people who've had the vaccine have developed blood clots.

The UK regulator, the MHRA, said the guidance was not proof the vaccine had caused the clots but it said the link was getting firmer.

So from now on people in the UK aged between 18 and 29 will be offered an alternative to the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab.

The regulator has insisted that the benefits of taking the AstraZeneca vaccine -- still far outweigh the risks for the vast majority of people.

Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by our medical editor Fergus Walsh and health editor Hugh Pym.

I am 64, approaching 65. My understanding of this is that the blood clot risk in itself is no greater for younger adults than it is for older people. The difference lies in the balance of risk with Covid which grows significantly as you move up the age groups. Younger adults are at a much lesser risk of becoming seriously ill with Covid therefore the risk of the blood clots becomes greater in comparison to someone like myself. If this is an incorrect assumption I'm happy to be corrected.

I am working on a production site, if anything no matter how small the sample size is, if it is safety relevant, the production is stopped until an investigation is concluded. I understand the benefits outnumber the side effects (death) but isn't considered the number of months only this has been layed out? 79 cases are in the UK, in Europe there are more. The trust in this vaccine is decreasing day by day unfortunately.
Me, as a young adult, I have more chances to be fine if I get covid but still risking a blood clots?!

So now it’s all of a sudden 79 people and 19 dead. A couple of days ago it was 30 people and I think 7 dead. Now I wonder what the true number is. Sorry, but I lost my trust in this jab.

Whatever happened to "One death is a death too many"?
The people promoting is continued use are complicit in endangering the population. Remember this.
