It isn’t make a wish foundation. British managers have been given big clubs and failed. It is an indictment of FA coaching courses for English coaches, that the two best candidates for the England job were Spaniard and a German. Two countries where UEFA pro coaching licence cost £450 and £250 respectively. This means Spain and Germany have a huge pool of professional qualified coaches 35, 000 in Spain and 55, 000 in Germany because it is affordable to anyone and giving them more quality coaches. England made this course £5000 to protecting coaching roles for uneducated former players with disposable money, meaning England have a small pool of 6000 professional coaches made up mostly of people with no good formal education and that might explain why England can’t produce elite managers.

Yeah well most England fans want to win trophies and after how many years of Shitgate, getting a good manager is more important than the passport.

Lionesses have won something with a non English manager and Tuchel is a proven winner, this mens squad should be able to win something.

Nowadays if England want to win trophies we need a foreign manager. Tuchels still very good tho, he knows how to win

No English manager has ever won the Premier League. Says alot about the standard of English coaching if you can't even win the league in your own country of birth.

English managers arent good enough thats why the FA appointed a foreign one.

It's gonna be hilarious if England finally win something and it's from a German manager

It's great to know that this man is now Englands 4th foreign manager after Fabio Capello (Italian), Sven-Goran Eriksson (Swedish) and Steve McClaren (Dutch)

And that Harry is typical British conservatism. Tuchel is the best available option. Look at the cricket, Rob key didn’t care that Brendon was a Kiwi he just wanted to appoint the best bloke for the players we had and the result are stark. So Tuchel being German is irrelevant, besides if we win the 2026 World Cup all the fans will soon forget he’s German.

Sorry Harry. There’s no English manager up to the job of getting us to the top winning trophies. We need a manager with merit, a proven winner.

Redknapp with his 1 fa cup title yeah we're taking advice from him

At the end of the day England don’t produce good managers. The obvious choice was Eddie Howe and the fa would have probably gone for him but that just wasn’t happening. This is the best appointment imo and ticks every box without having the discussion of compo to a contracted manager like pep for example and that was just unrealistic. We should all be pleased really

No Harry, English coaches are no good right now. Possibly except Howe and Potter (did poor at a toxic Chelsea, but worked wonders at Brighton). Maybe, see where we are 15/20 years time.

Entirely right Harry - I would rather England were a top 20 side and never won anything than managed by a foreign manager. Howe was the obvious choice, and they should have gone with him. Your claim that Frank Lampard should have been considered is frankly ludicrous, not least when you consider that Bobby Robson and Terry Venables previously occupied the role.

Incidentally, people talking about Tuchel as a top manager would do well to reflect that he was regarded as surplus to requirements by his last three employers. Foreign managers don't come any better than Fabio Capello, who was basically a flop in the role.
