When a car makes you giggle uncontrollably while driving it, you know it's good.

"Ma'am, your husband died in the Yugo."
"It must have been a bad crash then?"
"No Ma'am, it appears he died of hilarity."

A friend gives you a Yugo, but a _true_ friend gives you a Yugo with a lot more horsepower and unfinished front suspension. Apparently. :)

It's nice to see at least someone having a laugh in Yugo. Most of us born up to late 80's in Yugoslavia, learned to drive in Yugos. We mostly cried in it :D
But, having driven one hot rodded for racing in national class, it is a blast if I may say so :D

“The shifter was so vague and meaningless it might as well have been fine art” might be the best quote I’ve heard today

That Yugo wasn't completely useless, it was the reason I found your channel.

The strongest Yugo that came out of the Zastava factory is the 230HP YUGO GVX-R.

This Yugo was built in 1988 in Kragujevac by Zastava Yugo Motorsport. The engine was worked by the chief engineer at Zastava, Goran Pavlović, on the order of Konstantin Selaković and Jimmie Jumonville. The two compete in the SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) championship in the USA and are invincible in their class. It is interesting to note that several times they were even in the fight for the first place in the general classification where their competitors were Vipers, Porsches, Mazdas and other road eaters.

This Yugo can compare in every aspect with Abarth automobiles, this car has been featured in foreign and domestic television shows and magazines.

Now a little about the technical characteristics, which are very interesting.

Vehicle type: front engine, front wheel drive, 3 door hatchback.

Engine: 230hp @ 11000rpm, 4 cylinders in line, aluminum head, 1503ccm, 14.5:1 compression, two 45mm DCOE Webers, teck 2 ignition, belt driven single overhead cam, two valves per cylinder (intake valve diameter 40mm, exhaust valve diameter 34mm ), “Carrillo” rods, modified piston top. The engine is prepared by Zastava Yugo Motorsport chief engineer Goran Pavlovic.

Performance: pulls 1.3 g's, max. speed 233.5kmh (145mph) with 3.07 ring/pinion, 0-60mph 4.3sec, 1/4 miles 12.8sec with 4.07 ring/pinion.

Transmission: 5 speed gearbox, close ratio, limited slip (Alquati), quick steering rack (40% less travel).

Front brakes: "Brembo" self-ventilating drilled discs.
Rear brakes: "Brembo" drilled discs.

Wheels: 7inch Panasport.

Suspension: McPherson, coil springs, "Koni" shock absorbers, anti-roll bar. …

And the interior is arranged according to FIA rules, so anatomical seats, safety belts, fire extinguishers, roll bar...

This Yugo was mentioned 3 times in the SCCA "Sports Car" magazine, once in the "Auto" magazine and once in the newspaper "Vesti".

To paraphrase an anti-drug public service announcement:
"This, is a Yugo."
"This is a Yugo on steroids."
"Any questions?"
_Yes, where can I get one?_

That's the most improbable hot hatch ever!
My mother used to own a Yugo in '93. She still has very fond memories of it, actually. It just worked, and when it didn't, it was light enough that she, along with the cleaning lady, could lift the entire front of the car off the ground 🤣

Something tells me that on a long enough timeline, Matt Farah's Million Mile Lexus is also going to end up here.

Watching this video I felt very nostalgic.
1991 while I was just a child my family escaped civil war in croatia in Yugo, we went to Bosnia and later to Serbia. Many years later I learn to drive in it and had many nice memories with it. Many speeding tickets too! On highway I was getting 120km easily and it was Koral 45 with Dinamit Blue 9C color. Very weird how I remember that, never needed painting, had galvanized chassis. Never had any problems with it and we had it for I think 7 years. Now I am in Canada and watching this video making me want to have one again. It reminds me on pieces of my youth between wars. Please don't mock it, this was car from 80-is and it was decent comparing to other vehicles from that age.

Hello, in Argentina they sell many pieces to modify that engine, apart from that engine can be stroke at 1, 900 cc. In terms of front and rear I see it very similar to the fiat 147 for which many modifications are also sold here. good luck with the project. sorry for my bad english.

Imagine being the first person to ever get a speeding ticket in a Yugo. You have that opportunity now

Turn it into a luxury yugo with leather seats from a junkyard mercedes or something like that. Make walnut inserts in the dashboard, add a/c and a touchscreen head unit etc.

Remember don’t use fuel tanks as lift points! I am so happy that Yugo finally has a great home. I can’t wait to see how it develops further with you.

Also, the Mclaren 675lt was less of a fight than that crazy yugo.
