TREMEC should be standard problem solved

I bought a 2018 6 speed manual transmission 5.0 mustang brand new in 2018. Have had NO problems with it. Previous to that I had a 2013 5.0 with manual transmission. The 2013 clutch and shifter sucked. The 2018 is a lot better. During the breaking in period I made sure to shift through the gears quickly but smoothly, never slamming the shifter into gears. With 39000 miles on the odometer I have 0 complaints with the 2018 mustang. It’s always a real pleasure to drive that thing.

My 00GT’s Tremec T45 is freshly rebuilt and the shifter is a direct mount hurst. Even directly mounted and with a clutch cable it demands a good firm pull when the revs are high. Big engines mean big transmissions. Part of owning a manual v8 means you gotta put effort into it and also learn where your gates are. If you’re grinding you have another issue entirely, but shift effort is all part of the game. A short shifter could increase the effort as they raise the fulcrum point of the lever. Make sure the clutch is bled correctly.

Im not going to spend upwards of $40, 000 on a car, if the moment I get it I have to replace the stick and the clutch because its substandard...that makes no sense.

I had a 2011 mustang gt (totalled by 18 wheeler) with the 1st gen mt82. Stock shifting was not great. I put a trans mount from steeda for $20 and fixed most of the shifting issues. My 5.0 also had the tick with 140k miles with no issues. I drove the hell out of it.

I love my 17 MT82. I have taken her from 16k miles to 73k miles. No problem.

I just purchased a used 2021 GT 6sp, and I haven’t owned a manual since my 2005 GTO I sold 15yrs ago. I think this car shifts great and I love driving it plus I haven’t even snubbed it once yet or missed any gears lol. Just like riding a good bike 😊

It took me several months to get used to this trans in my 2018 GT after driving my manual 350z for several years. But now no problems. I think it's fine. Also, I've never been locked out of a gear.

I had an MGW shifter installed on my '19 PP1 GT and it's night and day difference. It was one of my first mods and I'm so glad I did.

I have a 2011 with an MT82. It was horrible when I first got it. The flywheel bolts backed out and the clutch was replaced on warranty. Now it is so good it's amazing. It is as smooth as the engine now and is a pure joy to drive. I lucked out.

It's a horrible transmission but I deal with it. I agree with you about it being hard to shift it fast and smoothly at the same time. I'll normally short shift it from 1st to 2nd and then do a hard pull from 2nd to 3rd and hold my breath as I go up into 3rd lol.

I have mixed emotions about my MT82. I feel like my second gear is so grabby sometimes and when I dip the clutchcto shift sometimes the car jerks which is annoying. This video made me feel a lot better tho about my situation with mine, not so alone lol preciate the vid

1:05 Engine ticking noise that is loud enough to raise eyebrows is not normal operating noises. I had the same issue with mine, and had same reactions where ever I went from people who heard it. resulted outcome was new motor as that "Ticking", in my case, was bottom end damage from lower oil pump not producing enough oil pressure down low to properly lubricate. After replacement, tick was gone.

I feel you boss. I learned how to drive stick on my ‘19 Coyote and boy it’s notchy. 2nd gear fights me sometimes but I never had any issues. I hope it stays that way lol

We had similar shifter problems on the 60s and 70s cars equipped with four speeds. Four speeds were all you could get back in those days. The factory shifters were sub standard. Thank God for George Hurst. Bolt in a new Hurst Competition Plus shifter and you were golden.

As an old timer and remember the debate between the BW T-10 and Ford top loader trans. It wasn't that one trans was better than the other, but a Hurst shifter was mandatory if you drove it hard. I don't have any experience with the MT82 or Tremec but I'm guessing a quality shifter will solve a lot of the problems with the MT82

11-12 GT have a skip shift feature if the speed and RPMs are above certain level it will attempt to force you into 4th gear. It can be programmed out.

I've been contemplating the GT pp2, which also has this transmission as standard, and that would cost me about $45, 000 w/options...that's too much to contemplate spending more money to replace the stock transmission with a tremic, like I said, doesn't make sense.

It took 70k before my mt82 started shifting good. It clicks into every gear now.
