Learning The Fretboard On Guitar and the hidden geometry of the fretboard.

Today, I wanted to show you the underlying elegant yet logical framework of the guitar fretboard and the hidden geometry in the spacing of the dot or inlay markers, which enable you to vizualise the guitar fretboard and navigate the fretboard comfortably.

In this video, I discuss why the guitar fretboard dots are where they are, and how understanding this enables you to recycle chords, licks, and arpeggios in other areas of the guitar neck. This fundamental understanding is the key to playing everywhere on the guitar fretboard visualization.

This video is edited from my first YouTube Live. Please excuse the dodgy cuts. I’m still learning to edit.

I am a guitar teacher with 30 years experience teaching privately, in schools, further education, and rehabilitation organizations. I pride myself on giving beginning guitar players the foundation skills needed to become the guitar player they want to be.

In 2006 I founded "Ricky's school of rock", which is a real school of rock set in 6000 sq ft of dedicated teaching space, where my staff of 16 tutors and myself teach every day. Teaching guitar is our calling and legacy.

The results and outcomes YOU are seeking are what drives the content of every lesson. My background as an NLP practitioner enables me to have a unique, incisive and effective take on learning guitar that defeats the self-doubt adult learners can face when coming back to learning. I care deeply about your results.

The videos I teach here on YouTube have been meticulously tested and finessed in real life classrooms and lessons with thousands of real live students.

Keep discovering these little gems now and again. Sometimes I hear you say 'you don't know, what you don't know'. Which is very true. Then again, at times, 'you don't know, what you do know'. That is because we tend to stay in a comfort zone without exploring the options available. This video is an example of this. I would normally stay in a safe zone, yet there it was in front of my face, staring at me...I have the option to move up an Octave, play the same notes and sound even more professional...well at least give that impression...lol. What a great tutorial. Cheers Ricky.

Ricky, as a beginner, I have watched untold videos for the fretboard and remained confused aa ever. I have now watched three of your videos and finally a light bulb has gone off. I hate to admitted it but I was still counting 13, 14, 15 frets beyond the 12th. Your simple comment that 13 is really 1 all over again is so simple I am a fan for life.
Thank you and keep 'em coming.
