Triangles, Hulls, and Coverages: New and Planned Functions for Processing Polygons in PostGIS

Martin Davis from Crunchy Data gives a presentation on some new and improved functionality in PostGIS 3.3 with GEOS 3.11. The ST_ConcaveHull function has been made more robust and faster when operating on points, and extended to support accurate hulls for polygons. A new function ST_SimplifyPolygonHull allows simplifying polygonal geometry via inner and outer hulls. The new ST_TriangulatePolygon function allows constructing a constrained Delaunay triangulation of polygons. Also discussed is a proposed set of functions to support the concept of Simple Polygonal Coverages.
