The 2009 collectors box is not only canonically accurate to the history of how Andy dad would have bought woody but in toy story 2 all of the round up gang had that style of box. The prospector was stuck in his in the film and the others had theirs too

You forgot to mention the 2009 version could also glow in the dark for real. I had both original and new versions (along with several variants including grey armor, dark colors, and a variant of the 2009 with the anti gravity servo belt) and I was so much happier with the glow in the dark as that was one of the coolest features in the movie for me.

One thing that bothered me about *Thinkaway's Signature Collection* was that they released Woody, Jessie and Bullseye in the _Woody's Roundup packaging, _ but never made a *Stinky Pete* toy to truly complete the set. I would have liked a proper Prospector doll.

Had a 1995 Buzz also, the nostalgia is wild lmao. Mine had a motion alarm feature that you had to set with a button combo. It used to go off by itself sometimes and we were all convinced it was haunted lol

As a kid in 1995, I noticed that A: the toy Buzz was slightly larger than the one in the movie when compared to the other toys that already existed for scale and B: all the features he _didn't_ have (karate chop action and helmet fully retracting came to mind immediately).

The detail that bothers me about the 2009 edition is the way the joints are cut on Buzz. The slots on the joints look weird, and it seems like 95 got those right, even if the range was more limited.

I’ve actually had both 1995 Woody and Buzz. My Woody was like a ragdoll, not Poseable.

It's scary how we're 2 years away from the thinkway toys being as old as the '95 toys when the thinkway ones came out.

Ah yes, I loved Jim Hanks and Tom Allen as our favorite toys

Fun fact: At the end of Toy Story 3 when Andy hands Buzz over to Bonnie and she pushes his voice button and he says “To Infinity... AND BEYOND!”... that was sampled from the 1995 Thinkway Buzz figure.

Later versions of Buzz figures had much cleaner sounding voice boxes, but on the ‘95 figure it almost sounds like the speaker is straining when he says “...AND BEYOND!” Watch that scene again and make the ‘95 Buzz say that phrase after Bonnie does, it’ll blow your mind.

The woody I had as a kid in the 90s didn’t have a wire skeleton and, to memory, had much better proportions, though it definitely had the same fat torso and voice box

Even though John Lasseter said that he thinks that the Collection box is more realistic, I think that that current Disney Store box would be more realistic for Woody. It has both components of these, the western theme, and the tall box.

In terms of accuracy from the movies and the better looking packaging and models, the 2009 version looks way better and they really did improve on the size, and mobility of the toys.

Looking at tge 1995 version, i would have bought it as a kid but now that im older, the 2009 ones are the superior toys even though many will say that the older ones are very valuable for collectors.

The reason why their faces look the way they do was because the designers at Thinkway were given concept renders of each character to base the toy on, which is why 95 Woody has a smile while 09 Woody has an open mouth.
No idea why they didn't make the toys with the official toy mode expressions after the first movie, but I guess they considered it tradition after the first.

What a throw back! I have these 1995 toys in the attic! I loved them!!
My Buzz did have a wrist communicator, though, and he also had a 'fly mode' where if you held him at an angle his head would lift up and he would say things like
"The wind my hair...Bugs in my teeth, yuck!"
Then we had a Woody with a guitar that could play "You've Got A Friend In Me", and also a Woody and Jessie that could talk to each other!
P.S. I think your 1995 voice box is broken, which has made it speed up which is why it sounds rushed and high pitched.

24:20-44 There was only one Buzz Lightyear in Australia I could ever find for sale in mid 1997 in Kmart that had an opening and closing wrist communicater. In fact this one was even better then the movie one because inside it there were buttons you could press and hear more phrases. One example that I only had time to press once was "Buzz Lightyear to Star Command. Come in Star Command." A friend of mine once even said there was a silver one that had an opening and closing wrist communicater but the one I just mentioned with the buttons inside was the only one with an opening and closing wrist communicater I could ever find.

John Lasseter: “We can do better.”
Thinkway: *Gives collection Woody an inaccurate hand sculpt to 1995’s sculpt.*

What disappoints me is that they have YET to release a movie accurate Woody. I've been seeing so many people restoring and/or creating their own movie accurate Woody dolls, and I'm just sitting here thinking "Why does Disney/PIXAR/Thinkway keep changing the facial expressions on Woody?? Why not make his face accurate to the movie: closed smile, eyes fully open, and go above and beyond and add the accurate details like pearl buttons, a properly laced hat, rope detailing on the vest, etc." They definitely improved on Buzz in 2009, significantly more accurate. However, the voice of 1995's Buzz is more accurate (even though both are Tim Allen). What boggles my mind is: Why don't they just take audio clips directly from the movie(s) and use them for the toys' catch phrases??? That way their phrases and sounds are movie accurate!

Also...I agree, Buzz's helmet still doesn't do "that..th-th-that WHOOSH thing!", and still doesn't have any karate chop action!

Does 2009 still glow in the dark? I know the '95 version does.

My brothers and I had the 1995 versions of Woody. There were a couple of versions of the 90s Woody and I had them both, among other Woody dolls. The first version was poseable, had a smaller ring on the pull-string and he had spurs on his boots. The second version had a larger ring, no spurs and didn't have wire inside to pose. I remember getting Buzz in Christmas of 1997. I also had some other Woody and Buzz action figures when growing up. I loved all of those toys and the movies. I have yet to see the fourth one, but I plan to see it soon.

26:54 I think in my opinion both lasers are alike what the movie had.
Because two reasons:
1: When Buzz holding his laser aim at Woody (26:40) when they first met in Andy's bed. And other Buzz with utility belt aim at the real Buzz in second movie.
2: When Slinky and Woody press the laser button, and Buzz using to destory Spider Baby head and tries escape the plastic box when Jessie and Bullseye trapped him. (26:45)
