16:35 Plot snafu ... why was he suddenly able to speak if his translator implant was clearly designed or set to inhibit his vocal cords ? Also, if he was already hearing her speech as auto-translated English, he didnt need to rely on her instruction to learn ... he just had to pay attention to anyone within earshot who spoke. Last, and perhaps most eggregiously, you conveniently overlooked the option of displaying intelligence and communicating via gestures and written language (ex: Charton Heston famously snatched a sheet of paper and folded it into a plane and threw it, in the original Planet of the Apes movie). I would have done at least as well, in his shoes, and thus you have a serious structural fault in your micro-short story plot.

Finessing those three plot holes would make the sudden "13th Warrior"esque a lot less jarring.
