A match of perfection, brilliant commentary, brilliant drama, brilliant strips, the buzz of klaxons from the crowd, Adidas tangos, warm Mediterranean evening, end to end drama, great saves. John Motson sounded absolutely knackered at the end on the final goal.
My only criticism is, he says ‘ I’ve not seen a match like this in years ‘ - he did, Italy v Brazil in 82, , just two years before !!

Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the greatest matches I have ever witnessed. I was 10 years old at the time, and was in awe of this French team. What a team they had, with Platini, in my eyes, being the best footballer on the planet. Glorious stuff.

This match was the best the Blues of France have ever played. Og remember this game and Chalana was the heroe of this match.

After all, it was not the Demi-Final but yes, the true FINAL from the EURO84. A real Hymn to the Football. Who was then the big stars? CHALANA and MICHEL PLATINI !!! What an unbelievable night in Velodrome - Marseille...Thank you glorious FRANCE and PORTUGAL. That's why millions love football.

As a young man, here in Oztralia in the 80's, Euro didn't exist until a good old mate of mine said "Gaz, check this out". His brother in England had posted him the BBC 1 hour highlights of the semi on good old VHS. Woah.  Life changing game for me. Remember, back then, no internet etc. This was real football.

Found this video while searching for Chalana, the "Pequeno Genial" from Portugal, who sadly passed away yesterday, 10/08/2022, at the age of 63 due to Alzheimer's. What a game this must have been, as I was only 10 and can't remember! I've got to say that France had probably one of the best teams ever - the ability of that midfield was impressive! Both Chalana and Bento (Portuguese goalkeeper) lived about 3 miles from where I lived, and they were both very humble people, according to my father, who knew both.
R.I.P. Chalana, "Little Genius"...

This game had everything! Passion, skill, drama. You name it this game had it. I will always remember Portuguese winger Fernando Chalana in this tournament. He was amazing and even though Platini scored a bagful of goals in the Championships, Chalana for me was player of the tournament.
