The Sullivan family legacy is a story of unwavering American spirit and patriotism. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, five Irish-American brothers from Iowa joined the Navy's war efforts. The Sullivan brothers reported for duty aboard USS Juneau Feb. 14, 1942, and died, nine months later, during the Battle of Guadalcanal along with 682 shipmates.

We honor the Sullivan brothers, along with all the heroic servicemembers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. #245NavyBirthday #VictoryAtSea #NavyMusic

All I can think about is the grief of their mother, Mrs. Alleta Sullivan. So somber and gracefully sung.

Perhaps the Sullivan brothers are listening to angelic music such as this. Thank you Casey, Rachel, Antje, and Amy. I could listen to the Sea Chanters for hours and sometimes do. Happy Birthday USN!

These young ladies are absolutely the best of the best for the U. S. Navy. Great singing and we are all so grateful for your service . Best Wishes Always.

I understand why siblings can't serve together anymore due to the tragic case of the Sullivans but if I were to die in a war fighting I'd rather die with my siblings fighting along my side, I know the amount of grief to my parents would be unimaginable, but I would feel comfort in knowing that to the end I was always with my loved ones

I just love our Navy Band and I was Army!!! Can't deny their awesome talent and beautiful voices with music however! I pray I see them perform live just once before I leave this earth.

What an absolutely beautiful rendition of this world-famous song of seperation from those you love, and what a clever arrangement to celebrate the female voice.
This would not be out of place at The NY Met. IMO.
IIRC, the US Government passed The Sullivan Act to limit the number of family members who could serve together in the same unit.
Brava!

USS The Sullivans DDG-357 is a great ship with a greater background along with it's more modern counterpart DDG-68.

A very atmospheric piece. As always well presented. The background of the fallen five Sullivan brothers makes one very sad and thoughtful Greetings from Germany
