Science diplomacy practices have long focused on the Global North's role, while treating the Global South as a beneficiary. Today, we're at the crossroads where science diplomacy is entering a new phase. More and more countries from the Global South have joined intergovernmental science organizations and are investing in capacity-building, presenting new opportunities for international collaboration and the development of diplomatic relations. In this talk, NSPN's Science Diplomacy Committee took a deep dive into international relations in the Global South focusing on Brazilian Science Diplomacy. Dr. Amâncio Jorge Silva Nunes de Oliveira, Professor at the Department of Political Sciences at the University of São Paulo- Brazil and Coordinator of the São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Science Diplomacy and Innovation Diplomacy (InnSciDSP) discussed (1) the topical issues of interest for Brazilian science diplomacy, (2) the adaptation of the science diplomacy field to the context of the Global South and related challenges, and (3) his experience as the coordinator of the world's first school devoted to both Innovation and Science Diplomacy.
