When Brylie Campbell was born in July 2016, doctors quickly realized something was wrong. While in utero, Brylie suffered midgut volvulus. She lost approximately 60 percent of her small intestine, her ileocecal valve and appendix. Brylie had short bowel syndrome and couldn't eat. She was flown to Nebraska Medicine and met Dr. David Mercer with the Intestinal Rehabilitation Program. In January 2017, Brylie underwent a bowel lengthening procedure at Nebraska Medicine. Shortly after, she was able to eat baby food and solids.
