It's actually so interesting how different books existed and have survived the test of time

That’s literally insane to give away a bible that old.

These books are usually donated to charities who then use these booksellers

This is a huge stretch, but if you ever see any shorthand books, id love to see em! I collect only shorthand books, and i know many small book stores wind up throwing them away because old educational books for pretty much dead writing systems arent the most sought after thing. I will try to buy them if you have em, even if its just to save them from becoming landfill waste, or i will ask around to find more local buyers since theres a small number of us who really do treasure these books! This goes for shorthand books in any language!

I don't think it's recommended to wear cotton gloves whilst handling old books/ paper anymore - the cotton fabric can catch or snag on the paper, causing damage and the extra layer means you have less precision, which exacerbates it. Clean hands are the best way i believe.

This kind of reminds me of a much more valuable version of books I read and still read.

Most of my books are from 50-80s. I inherited my grandpa’s book collection and added mine 😊

oh no, please don't use gloves! you could potentially damage the old fragile pages!
the gloves can snag on the pages and tear them, and the extra layer between your skin and the book means there's less tactile feedback so you're more likely to accidentally be less gentle with your handling.
it's best to thoroughly wash and dry your hands before handling an old book like that!

I thought you weren't supposed to wear gloves while handling old books? Something about a non-gloved hand having more precision

You shouldn't actually be using gloves to flip through pages! You can accidentally tear a fragile page, which far outweighs the cost of any minimal hand oils left behind.

Suggestion on the last one. Take whatever it sells for and donate it to the charity, Mermaids.

I wouldn’t consider it rare but I have a copy of “I am Spock” by Leonard Nimoy which he signed in Belfast many years ago.

Gotta love how, if true, your workers in the beginning toss the books on the conveyor like it’s trash and meanwhile you put gloves on to be careful with them. What a joke. Set some standards
