DAY IN THE LIFE on a FARM | Morning Chores | February Edition

Come spend a day in the life of a stay-at-home-work-from-home-homeschooling-mom. On this wintery morning, I tend to the farm alone and take care of all the morning chores. My goal is always to get the farm chores done before the kids wake up. And on this beautiful morning, I was able to.

This is the first of a Day in the Life monthly series that I intend to do for you this year.

The goats are the most impatient. Many mornings I get knocked over as they try to push their way to the feed trough. They are phenomenal smart creatures…but most phenomenally stubborn. We raise Nigerian Dwarf goats because they give the creamiest, most delicious milk I have ever had. In this video, you will see me milk one of our dairy goats...and you will, also, see our sweet barn cat, Mimosa, waiting anxiously for her warm milk.

Some of our goats are pregnant right now and due to kid in the early spring. I can hardly wait for baby goats to be hopping around the farm!

With their milk, I am able to make all sorts of things, like soap, cheese, and yogurt. They are an essential part of our homestead and a joy to have around.

Our sheep are called Jacob’s sheep and have a history dating back thousands of years. They are rumored to be the spotted sheep that Jacob, from the Bible, tended too. Their beauty is breath-taking. Their main purpose on our farm is keeping down our pastures. This breed has an incredible foraging ability, thriving on solely grass and hay. But my favorite thing that they give me is their fiber.

Raising my own food has really connected me to my food source.

In a genetically modified, fast-food world, this lifestyle I live, is my greatest protest.

You’re a delightful breath of sunshine! I’m researching day to day life on a small farm to see if it is really something I can or can not physically do anymore. I happened on your video and was taken aback by your wonderful attitude.
My dream is much smaller scale mini farm than your family’s but probably on more acreage and on the Beach of Oregon. I’m still young 58, but I had a very severe incident at work that caused many idea changing injuries. I can’t do heavy construction any longer in fact I can’t do much for long. I do have a dream! My wife doesn’t think I can physically handle caring for a farm, so I’m researching what I think I can and can’t & what I might and might not and also what I won’t and WILL NOT! Maybe I can check your library and see what else I’d gleen from you. Thank you ma’am

Wow cool mushrooms on trees I wish we had them here on Vancouver Island and yes I love raising my food too first year and my freezer is full of good food and deer love it 😁😁😁 you have a very nice place
