Agne Parthene Despoina (O Virgin Pure). Perhaps the most popular orthodox chant.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions I could not book a church or a similar space with natural reverb and as a choir we could not even gather anywhere else to record undistracted. This meant that we could not rehearse together and we had to do in total 4 separate home recordings for 5 members of the Hagia Sophia London Cathedral Choir. We sang based on a metronome and a given pitch which we had to follow strictly in order for all the separate recordings to match in terms of tempo, tone and syllables. The shortest of the recordings lasted 6 hours and the longest 10 hours. Then the mixing and editing took me literally a few days.

Apart from myself the other members of the St Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral who sang and assisted me substantially with their suggestions on this hymn, and who I thank from the bottom of my heart are:

The meaning of the title is "holy virgin lady". Lady is the feminine of Lord. Which means they declare the holy virgin to be "the Lord" which is blasphemy against the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the Lord not the virgin.
If you follow the "lady" you are against God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
