For those in the comments talking about my CSM campaign where I advocated for the opening of the gates, you've intentionally left half of the request out. I wanted the gates open to allow counter-play AND the Triglavian gate guards fixed to be like their Highsec counterparts to compensate. This would allow players through but put them at a major disadvantage if they were not Triglavian aligned. This is the same gameplay for any other region of space if you are an outlaw or negative with that local faction so it's not new tech.

CCP, in classic fashion, opened the gates but did not fix the gate guards. The Pochven Triglavian gate guards routinely attacked Triglavian aligned players and were never fixed. This prevented us from patrolling and guarding our own space as our NPC guards would attack and kill us at random. We couldn't fight back as that would lower our standing with the Triglavian faction. This was a confirmed bug and CCP had to refund nearly a hundred ships to our players as a result. Sometimes it took over a month to get them back on our side but external groups would get their ships back in hours to days. CCP stated they would spend the quarter on Pochven. All they did was open the gates and perform no other improvements.

To put this into context for non-eve players, imagine if you were playing a game like FFXIV or WoW and your city guards randomly attacked and killed you and when you died you dropped half your gear and the other half was destroyed. Putting in a support ticket could take up to a month to get your gear back and until then you got nothing. Fun experience, right?

"We're not helping because it's you, but the second anyone else has that problem, we'll fix it" is unbelievable. That's proof positive that the devs were not on the side of the playerbase, they were specifically sided AGAINST some players.

I play(ed) Eve online since 2003 and the 2 most common things from the players still are:
"A player found out..."
"CCP never responded..."

Ark: Survival Evolved has exactly this issue, but with the publishers. People raid their tribe, then suddenly the server crashes, then reverts back to before the raid, except all the people who attacked the base were banned.

Hearing that "I thought that was just a Stribog problem" suddenly makes me feel _really glad_ I never got into Eve like that.

Every third sentence I hear about EVE is the coolest thing my scifi nerd brain has ever heard, but the first and second things always sound like Satan himself said them.

Imagine hating a guild because they report bugs in your game, and then not fixing them to spite those players.

I stopped playing Eve when my account got hacked and so logically, I reported it, but all they did was ban me for "account sharing". This was many years ago.

He's apparently hitting a nerve here, cesspit forums like reddit are raging about Thor existing or having any opinions. It wouldn't be the first time a dev team for a game ran the show for their buddies instead of their community, and the response to this is telling.

"I can fight another player, I can even fight another players wallet. But I'm not gonna fight the Devs." That quote goes harder than I was ready for.

Eve is such an interesting thing.

Best observed from a distance.

That blows my fucking mind. The fact that the devs out right said 'fuck um.' and fixed the issue once other players reported it. I'm glad you quit. That demonstrates a clear bias and favorability that the devs have towards people. Anyone who plays EvE should be aware of this that the devs have players they dislike and will actively ignore your legitimate concerns cause they just don't like you.

"Please help us fix this bug that might take months"

"Ah yes, for helping us fix the dread bugs, we've awarded you a golden middle finger. One for every member of your guild!" :D

I "won" EvE Online by quitting about 5 years ago. I remember all the deep null wars. I was there when Battleships were the largest ships in the game and our mining "ops" consisted of Apocs fitted to the brim with cargo expanders and mining laser II's. Best gaming time of my life, met a ton of great friends i keep in touch with randomly today, but damn do I NOT miss what EvE became later on.

Actual Devs working to hinder other alliances in the game through official patches was some of the most BS I'd ever seen. Sad to hear it kept happening.

as someone who does enjoy EVE a lot but doesn't treat it as a second job, it pains me to hear this, that's absolute bullshit and at least a formal apology from the devs is in order

Hey Thor, Dread Pirate Steve here. I met you at Open Sauce 2024 briefly, you seemed like a super genuine dude.

Anyway, I wanted to add my experience to this, as I was involved in the Pochven burnination campaign while it was happening, on the defensive side but not actually in Stribog proper. If anything, Thor is downplaying the situation. You had a guild mostly active in US timezone being hit by multiple guilds simultaneously across all timezones. It was pure panic and incredibly unfair. Round the clock alarms as structures would get hit, and if we didnt defend against the 10 man crew of russians hitting the structure during their time zone, a group of 300 guys would be showing up later to finish it off. Most of stribog quit by the time the call was made to throw in the towel and burn what was left.

After supplying and commanding many fleets in the off-peak times during that war, I settled in Kino, the system at the point opposite the side Stribog inhabited. During that first 2-3 months our income came from killing NPC ships that spawned on those wormholes. The NPCs in pochven were notoriously broken but were our only source of income besides the dreadsites. Then the devs later made a change that made the NPCs not fight unless there was a player there with them to save on server resourses WITHOUT FIXING ANY OF THE PROBLEMS THEY HAD. This broke them further, and this includes the NPCs in the dreadsites. From randomly deciding you're an enemy to "sleeping" until the first ship in their group is destroyed. Randomly becoming to an enemy to a triglavian fleet was a problem. Since retaliating in any way meant a significant hit to your standings and likely a loss of access to your space as you described.

For 5 years, I enjoyed Eve. Then I realized I had more fun when I was thinking about playing Eve, than I did actually playing it. So I stopped.
