Good video. Too bad you ended it going into East Main st. I grew up living on E. Main st in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s. Graduated HS in ‘58, joined the navy and never looked back. The only things I recognized from your video were the street names. As a kid we had the Barnum Festival, parades, downtown Main Street open til 9:00 pm on Thursdays and it was wall to wall people. Bridgeport was also known as Park City because of all the perks - Seaside, Beardsley, Washington, etc., and everyone went to the movies. The Majestic, Loews Poli, Globe, Lyric, all on Main Street. Bridgeport’s death spiral started when Frouge built the Trumbull Mall. That’s when downtown died. People were mesmerized by a mall. Looking forward to more Bridgeport videos, especially East Main Street. I expect to not recognize anything as I believe most of East Main was torn down, especially in the St. Michael’s area. Again, good video.

Just crazy how incredibly affluent everything around Bridgeport is but the city has all these vacant lots. Black Rock area is cool though.

In 1951, we lived on Congress St. Just up the hill from Main St. The Arcade was still in one piece then. Many memories.

If you want to get to know the city i recommend spending a day in the golden hill court house, go from Court room to court room . This should give you a very clear view of the status of bpt ct.

Bridgeport had a great downtown in the 50's and 60's, if you blink driving thru downtown Bridgeport now, you'll miss it, not much of a loss anyway

Bridgeport gets a bad reputation, but it is NOT as bad as it seems. They are redeveloping many of the old factory buildings, and they should one day build a football stadium for Sacred Heart University to play in.

Nice video bringing back many memories of a time and place that remain in my mind. The video should have been entitled, "Late afternoon drive around Bridgeport, CT." because much of the drive was not in downtown. Main Street used to end at Seaside Park. It would be nice if you could make more videos showing more detail in the 5 main areas of Bridgeport: West End, South End, Black Rock, East Side, North End, and more of the Downtown section. Or, because Bridgeport is called "The Park City". you might want to do a video showing the many parks in Bridgeport. P.S. Thumbs Up.

I was born and raised in Bridgeport. Moved out in 1994 and boy have things changed downtown. As you drove up Main Street into the north end and turned on Wayne Street, the street prior was my old neighborhood Thorme St. and if you had turned in the opposite direction down, Peet Street, it would’ve brought you back to Thorme Street and in front of my old middle school Florence Blackham

I live in Bridgeport and it's nice I guess Bridgeport is pretty crappy at times and also the place you showcased actually used to be horrible their used to be homeless people and prost*tutes all over the town but overtime it improved and it's not as bad but still isn't REALLY great

I will say this. The downtown is kept clean. And it's looking better than ever. But it's still missing things that attract people, business, etc.

Bridgeport is a bit like Waukegan, Autora, Joliet, Kankakee, Elgin and ( Yes) Gary here in the Chicago area.

The centers of these communities all have neen largely abandoned but all heve incredible potential just need reinvestment

Did you know that even though the Bluefish are gone, a new baseball team is coming to Bridgeport? That’s right! The Bridgeport Barnums will be coming to the CCBL! The CCBL stands for the Connecticut Collegiate Baseball League. They will call Seaside Diamond their home. I think the Bluefish should come back to join Minor League Baseball, affiliated with MLB. They should build a new stadium where the Barnums, Bluefish, and most importantly, Sacred Heart University’s baseball team would play!

I have a few suggestions to make the city better:
1. The Barnum Museum should reopen after all of these years of being closed after the hurricane destroyed all of the stuff, as they could maybe repair it.
2. Total Mortgage Arena could besides having the Bridgeport Islanders, they can also host Sacred Heart University’s basketball team. It would hopefully attract college fans there.
3. They could do as many redevelopment projects as possible. For example, maybe they can tear down the old Remington Arms Factory, but keep a part of the tower and turn it into a museum about the city’s manufacturing history. There are planning to do this to make room for.another train station known as Barnum Station.
4. They have been trying to build a somewhat touristy area as a harbor for a while. They should just finish it, and once again, the city could become a metropolis like it used to be.
5. They could turn all of the abandoned factories into new buildings, such as apartments, parking garages, maybe even a shopping mall and/or a casino, and things like that.

Check out washington park, or perhaps hang out down on Barnum avenue down near bpt hospital.

My biggest gripe with BPT is how car infested it is. Very little foot traffic, which makes it feel unsafe to exist in. Streets are waaaay too wide for a downtown. Would be an excellent city to try dedicated bus lanes, or god willing, street cars. Maybe one day!

Paul Newman filmed a movie starring his wife back in I think 1972 in Bridgeport Ct., he called Bridgeport the sewer of New England

Obviously the comments stating that Bport isn’t so bad don’t live here anymore.
