Motorcycle USA slaps on new BST Blackstone Tek carbon fiber wheels and spins laps at Thunderhill Raceway aboard our 2010 modified SuperSport CBR600 and 2009 Honda CBR600RR project bike.

I have a set of BST Carbon Fiber Wheels in my Suzuki TL1000R and besides the bling factor (which is off the charts !!), they make a big difference in turn in, general handling, and stopping! They weigh about 45-50% less than my factory wheels.

I have to say when it comes to color scheme Honda is the hands down winner. Their bike have the best colors of any bikes! Damn I wish Kawasaki would join the ranks of kick ass graphics and color schemes!

I have recently tried carbon fibre wheels on my Aprillia RSV4 recently and the difference is incredible, just the wheels alone. Less rolling resistance means better acceleration, better braking, better cornering, less weight and for every tankful of 99 Octane unleaded, there is an extra litre saved during track use and on normal road use its 2 litres, which means 1 litre of extra fun to burn up on track and 2 litres extra for the next days ride to the circuit!

One way to experience the difference is to take a dowel and get 2 identical wheels and spin them both at say...the equiv of 20mph. One wheel is make from steel, the other from balsa wood. The steel wheel will have more momentum and is harder to stop by just grabbing it. It also takes more work/effort to get it to 20mph. Then hold both dowels out in front of you, both spinning 20mph. Tilt them side to side quickly. the lighter one will tilt with MUCH less effort. Lighter is better

The data is out there. Numerous magazines have tested them, better ones than American mags at that. I have a set on my RSVR. The quality and weight reduction is amazing. BTW, I got mine on a year end closeout for $2350, normal price was closer to the $4k mark.

Not really because the wheels are already the lowest point of the bike, making them lighter does little to nothing in changing the center of gravity. Where weight really affects the COG on a bike is the chassis. Take off the stock tank and airbox and replace it with a CF tank and CF TB horns and you can take 5-10lbs off the top of the chassis. That will be much more noticeable as far as changing the COG

What's the best way to clean carbon fiber wheels? So not to get the protective coating scratched up, or swirls from dirt an road debris.

the important thing is the unsuspended weight - the less the better

@truefictions Actually, putting on better wheels probably raised the Centre of gravity.

@truefictions well, then similar to your rxn to the video, I'm surprised that you didn't mention if the COM goes up or down.
Honestly though lol, I'm not even sure if that set up helps. Shedding weight is conventionally good, mostly for speed; while raising COM is usually bad, for stability and transition.
Sure costs a lot.

doesn't that raise the center of gravity? isn't that bad ? Lightness might be good, but not in the lower part of the bike.. or is it just me?
