My headcanon is that the reason that the player refuses the meal with Hotaku is that when Hotaku says "I am proud" the player hears how... fake it sounds. He realizes Hotaku is not really proud of him, he's just happy that he got what he wanted, and is praising the player so the player will keep being loyal and doing what he wants. And then the player remembers how the last Pokemon he killed had said it was proud of him. THAT Was real. THAT was genuine. He finally experienced real, unconditional love and care and acceptance from that pokemon, and because of this he knows that Hotaku's pride and care isn't genuine. He realizes Hotaku made him kill the only beings who DID care. That's why he rebels.

This whole thing could be a metaphor for abuse (perhaps narcissistic or emotional abuse). Someone else had a great point, so here's my thoughts:

*Hotaku represents the abuser.* He shows a lot of kindness and love to the main character as a facade to send them out and do things for his own benefit. That's emotional exploitation (I know this because I'm going through something similar), and Hotaku does not seem to care about *the main character, who is the abuse victim, * because he keeps them locked out of the house until they do what HE wants. The final animal at the end you have to kill could perhaps be a representation of a therapist or someone that has genuine love for the victim, wanting to truly care for them. But because of the abuse, it never seemed to help the victim feel or get better (could represent the death of this final animal at the hands of the main character).

When the main character returns to the house, the player's choice can end up with two endings. Here's what I think each could represent:

*The player chooses to eat with Hotaku:* The main character eats the animals that he's killed with Hotaku, thus becoming trapped in the cycle. This could represent the abused victim never being able to get free of the abuse and suffering it for the rest of his/her days, or whenever it ends. Likely the death(s) of the abuser and/or the victim.

*The player refuses the meal and fights Hotaku:* The main character refuses to eat with Hotaku and thus, engages in battle with him, eventually skinning/killing him. This could represent the victim finally putting their foot down and pushing out of the abuse, going on to lead a happy life as they deserved. Now this may be taken in one of two ways:

1. If you consider the black-hole room *as non-canon, * then that's it: the victim has triumphed over abuse.

2. If you consider the black-hole room *as canon, * then it MIGHT represent the abuser killing the victim (I'm not sure myself what it could mean).

Basically, an absolute chad called "Brian2p" finds an ad for a strange low quality game which he clicked on cuz he was curious and because he has more intelligence than every horror game protagonist combined he runs it on a virtual computer, something saw him do a couple of times already.
It's basically a game trying to be scary but trips and falls down multiple stairs due to just being so comedic.
