Has Vancouver Become Canada's Best City? | Returning After 10 Years

I wasn't expecting to be this impressed! Vancouver is Canada's 3rd largest city, has perpetually rainy and overcast weather and the most expensive real estate in the whole country! BUT.... it is 'NICE'. If you are looking for a very high caliber of living with nature right at your doorstep, Vancouver might just be the best fit for you if you are looking to live in Canada. I always had the opinion that Toronto was the best city, but the last 3 years have definitely changed things. Join me on a tour of this gorgeous city where I'll take you to downtown, a bikeride around the SeaWall, Chinatown and Granville Island. And let me know in the comments what your experience of Vancouver was! xx

Travel Medical Insurance I use:

*I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.*

visited all the main cities of Canada a couple of years ago and the impression was, Vancouver being the prettiest out of all but ridiculously expensive. Toronto was absolutely massive but didn't really make as much of an impression. Montreal, even though a bit smaller and on the colder side of Canada, there's something about that city I just love so much.

I lived in Vancouver for 27 years (1994 - 2021). During my last 10 years I had a one bedroom apartment on Beach Avenue with English Bay and Stanley Park right there. It was a wonderful time in a fabulous city and it was always such great fun showing it off to those (and there were many) who came to visit. I'm now back comfortably residing in my home town of Halifax yet the memories of the friends I made and the wonderful times that I had in BC will always bring a smile to me of a time very well spent.

Vancouver my first city in Canada. Went to UBC in 2015 for my masters, absolutely love the city. I was in Vancouver for about 3 years followed by 2 years in Hope and 1 year in Burnaby. Last summer I moved to Ontario due to personal reasons and ever since I miss BC so much. I know people complain about the weather over there, but that’s what makes it so green and beautiful. I hope to return one day. Thanks a lot for the video.

Omg. I’m in tears. Came from Vancouver but 35 years ago I moved to Toronto to pursue my career & succeeded. Just retired & in the process of choosing a place ( Yale town), west end. Thank you for showing the world how beautiful Vancouver is. Not perfect but 99% the best, combinations of nature & modern areas, facilities & new careers. See you soon BC 👍😝😍❤️🇨🇦

I visited Vancouver from Scotland about 10 years ago and absolutely loved it. I spent a week of my month break there. It was sunny & baking hot the whole week. I spent 2 whole days walking the sea wall and Stanley Park. Was great too see it again.

Love Vancouver, have been there many times and every time I go back I like it even more. Please make more videos about the different neighbourhoods in the city . There's a lack of old buildings in the city but there are lots of beautiful streets and neighbourhoods with a lot of character like Strathcona.

The best weather is going to be in July and August and sometimes early September. The sun starts to come out in April/May and then the June Gloom appears. It varies but the clouds roll in sometime by the second week of June and stay too long.
There are a lot of TV and movies filmed in the area. One I’ve been watching on and off, Virgin River, is filmed nearby on Bowen Island.
The prices for housing are high as they are in all the west coast cities. High housing prices drive homelessness. If you think about first, last and deposit being more than $6000, it’s hard to get in the door.
I haven’t been to the Aquarium in a long time but they had a really interesting rainforest area in there with tiny monkeys. They used to have some sad Orca whales there and some Belugas. I don’t know what they have now.

Great video! Love hearing about our neighbors to the north, greetings form Seattle! It's sad to see that Seattle and Vancouver both have some of the same problems, especially affordability. The Pacific Northwest/British Columbia is such a unique part of the world, but it has its downsides like any other. At least the rain gives us all of this luscious greenery!

Hi Alina! Welcome home to Canada! I do not get back home often enough! I love Canada's three beautiful Olympic cities - Vancouver, Calgary, and my wonderful hometown Montréal. Saskatoon is the last Canadian city that was my home. I loved my three years in Saskatoon, but these were also the coldest winters of my life. You've got me warming up to Vancouver with this video, Alina!

When I first watched this video back in Europe, I thought, ‘Wow, this looks incredible and almost impossible for me.’
Less than a year later, I found myself living here and have now visited every single place shown.
Watching it again from my new favorite city, Toronto, brings back such pleasant memories and the realization that dreams really are possible.

I’ve lived in BC for 5 hrs now and I absolutely love it. Born and raised in Toronto, the first noticeable difference is the cleaner air out west. Love your videos Alina!

Absolutely amazing! Vancouver is undoubtedely a beautiful city worth visiting, but also living! Canada is a country which must be truly awesome and above all a country where one lives well. Vancouver is a beautiful city to visit and is relatively safe to walk, even at night and alone. I think you were alone for most of this visit. I was photographing the city and found it fascinating to capture or video. Though you may come across the homeless in some areas, they do not bother you but do appreciated any act of kindness. They are people too. All big cities worldwide are producing their own hyper inflation (cost of living) compared to other smaller cities. As travellers, it will cost us more to visit big cities as well.
Love your video work Alina. You made Toronto beautiful too, not to mention Montreal and Quebec!

I have noticed some drone footage, is this stock video? I don't think just anyone can use drones in these cities.
Thanks for sharing, Ontario, Canada.

Hi Alina, you’ve made an amazing video of Vancouver, with many stunning shots of the downtown area, Stanley park, etc! I think you were holding a bel cafe cup…love their coffee. If you haven’t tried JJ Bean yet I’d highly recommend it, too.
I’ve lived in Vancouver since the 90’s and still love it so much! I was born in the USSR and at age 6 we moved to Toronto, where I grew up. I travelled out west in my 20s, fell in love with BC and moved here a couple of years later. Have not looked back! I still visit family in TO and like the changes I’ve seen but YVR is home. Enjoy your visit and safe travels!!
