The problem is managers are not promoted because of their skills. Managers are promoted because they make their bosses feel good.

Not just CEOs, many of their executive staff and their staff are mediocre. Unfortunately, mediocrity is propagated by simply following orders of their leaders without using their own brains. I have seen this too many times even in highly respected companies.
