I always adjust the distance based on the ppfd light reading, it's the only way to be sure. As for "Cheap Lights" I've been growing with LED's for the last 5 years, and I did not purchase expensive lights. Picked up 1 Mars-Hydro TS-600 for about $70. It works good with great results. So I bought another, and am now growing under two of them. I have less than $500 into my tent, lights, fans and other equipment, and the harvest are plentiful and potent! I now grow the best quality I've ever grown, and have been growing since the 70's.

Agree with you on quality too , Ive had 3 mars Hydro lights & all have had electrical issues, Ive still got the 2 viparspectra Lights i started with & they work great still after 3 years & My AC Infinity Evo 8 I feel i will have forever as its so efficient in power & the quality is outstanding . 😎

If all you intend to do is start plants for transplanting outdoors you don't need grow lights and can get much cheaper lights without the word "grow" in front of them. 5000K, 5000 lumen works. Don't have other light sources hitting this grow area especially when the lights aren't on.

That's it.

Cannabis is a c3 plant and does not require dark cycles during vegetative stage - it is able to perform all of its metabolic functions under 24 hours of light without any drawbacks. the only reason to give vegging cannabis dark during veg is to save on electricity costs related to lighting/AC, however there is an argument that under 24 hours of light you can shorten the total days of veg required, which leads to an equivalent savings of electricity when switching to 12/12 for flower early. IMO the only reason to go 18/6 for veg and not 24hrs is if you are on tiered electricity pricing and see substantial savings by not having the lights/ac running during peak usage times

I built my own lights using 4 QB 648 boards with heat sinks perfectly spaced and mounted on a aluminum frame. I have a 8' 4x4 Gorilla tent and I mounted the HLG-600H-54AB Meanwell driver outside the tent on the wall. I have a apogee PAR meter to help me set light intensity and height with the ratchet ropes. I am in my first grow and 19 days into flower par is 900-1000 lights are 18-24 inches above plants temp is held steady at 73 degrees. plants love it.

I underestimated the amount of heat ED'S give off. I installed a second Vivosun VS1500 and came back two hours later to a temperature reading in my tent of 96 degrees and a huge spike in the temperature of the room my tent is in. We're talking mid 70's with the AC on full blast.

I’ve flowered autoflowers in same tent as photos and there was zero difference maybe she took a few days longer but I was super impressed either way how dank and potent she was. I learned not to play with auto when they are grow. I don’t even LST them just let em grow. I did it to prove to my friend that photos can grow just as fast and give you bigger yields and u can clone. So I vegged the tent with 2 auto 2 photos. I flipped the tent when the autos started to flower So it was a 26 day veg and my photos were 2 x as big but I was impressed with the potency of the auto flowers they were super frosty 84 days for the autos and 95 days from seed to harvest was photos so I truly believe newbies should learn on photos and not autos, there will be more upset people than happy

Great video. Especially for new LED growers. Finding the right height was the one that I messed with longer than I would have liked when I first started using LED. Manufacturers recommendations and ePar readings are all well and good, but in real world use it's the plants themselves who decide. I find the Manufacturers recommendation on height is always so far off that I have no idea how they get their number. I start with ePar readings and adjust from there. I normally end up in the 16-18 inch range all through seedling and veg stages. I sit at 25% for seedlings and 50% for veg.

I just upgraded from cmh to leds went with the spiderfarmer se5000 and se3000 and also the sf1000 for babies clones n mini veg in 2x2 se5000 in a 4x4 and se3000 in 3x3 the latter two for flowering these replaced 3 x 600w cmh’s and a 250 mh for my baby tent. Only things I’ve noticed since changing is growth is all round slower and they drink about half as much maybe a tad less went from 3 full feeds a week to one !!! Soil was always bone dry after 48 hrs under hid’s now my soil takes 5 days to dry back so it’s one full feed and then just water ph’d and with some calmag and recharge so feed then water then feed etc etc not noticed anything v spectacular as yet maybe levee halve slightly more blades on them, end of week one of flower my first run with leds, wish me luck 😁

After figuring this out mostly on my own. You said it, way too quickly about 800 to 1000 par no matter what size room or tent those plants need that much during flower corner to corner 😉 thanks

HLG 600R an Ac infinity ionframe6 are absolutely amazing lights, just wish HLG could remove driver as gets bit warm during summer especially living in very hot place

I was given warning that i would be raided, i decided to dump my lights, 6 Lumatek 600 Pros in my lake behind my house. They spent 6 weeks in 3 meters of water! I recovered them and all worked after only waiting a day to drain the light rails. The drivers were waterproof. So maybe thet should add a new quality factor, immersion resistance. The raid never happened 😂, back to square one now.

Hyphotonflux, and aglex have been treating me very well! So far I’m on my second grow w them. And for the price I don’t care if I don’t get another one., looking to get some new ones for my new tents anyway

I like to enter flowering at 80% and use the jump to 100% as a stretch-ending mechanism in week 2/3

Great video, but even some of the best companies led lights crap out and take 1 month to replace ballast, this in mid flower is the worst

No... Autoflowers do NOT require 18/6 lightcycles...
Thats why we have them in the first place...
Autoflowers do grow and change to flowering independent of the light cycle
