I think the reason why this anime was so good is because it messed with your head. As viewers, there is the logical part of us that thinks Shiki's should all be eliminated so the curse can stop, and then there is the emotional part that feels sympathy for Shiki's and criticises the cruel way humans treated them, forgetting that humans and Shiki's both felt the need to survive. And so the lines between good and evil start to blur as the show goes on and in the end, it makes us question if there _is_ in fact a good side. It makes the viewer question what they would do if they were in the same position as the humans (or Shiki's) and how they would deal with it. I don't usually watch anime but I have to say, I watched Shiki some years ago and I have the urge to watch it again. I don't really think you have to be ''mentally mature'' or incredibly smart to understand it, as some people said. I think you actually start thinking about it and understanding the point of it after you've finished it. All in all, it's a great horror anime with an amazing ost in my opinion.

A lot of people see horror as something that just makes you jump and gives you a dopamine rush, I think horror is something that haunts and fascinates years after you experience it and by that definition, Shiki is one of the greatest horror shows I've ever had the pleasure to watch

One of the most quotable animes, that is for sure.

"Death is terrible for anyone. Young or old, good or evil, it’s all the same. Death is impartial. There is no especially terrible death. That’s why death is so fearsome. Your deeds, your age, your personality, your wealth, your beauty: they are all meaningless in the face of death.”
― Sunako Kirishiki Shiki

“If I was the protagonist in this story, I’m sure someone would come save me. It would be like a miracle. But I have no one to save me. There is no god who would grant me a miracle. I’m a murderer, after all. But I’ve done nothing bad. All I did was feed myself. If I hadn’t, I would have starved to death. Would it have been better that way? Am I evil because I didn’t let myself starve to death? Give me an answer, Muroi-san! I didn’t willingly become such a creature. But if I have a life, shouldn’t I treasure it? Is that a sin? Muroi-san! This is what it means to be abandoned by God.” – Sunako Kirishiki

Someone in 2025 is still addicted to this unforgivable anime? The years can't kill a Shiki!!!

I'm here in 2024!

This is really a wholesome horror anime! It was not necessary for this anime to scare us just to become wholesome. It really blurs the answer after each episode that who all are correct?! Shikis and humans both are just so same! Both just tried to survive. Is it wrong just to survive? At last we kill, to survive! Really a wholesome anime with so true message!

I can't write my review in English well, I'm Japanese.
But I'll do it now.
I have saw Shiki about 5years ago,
since then this is one of the most favorite anime in my life.
Actually, before then, I never see anime.
So Shiki is my first anime, too.
I saw this movie a few years ago,
much more people fill in the [KOMENTORAN] than then.
Not only people do so, but also these are good reviews.
I'm really happy that so many foreign people love Shiki such as me.
Even though we are from various native, we are yet One team in term of anime lovers.
I LOVE YOU GUYS. SPEND GOOD ANIME LIFE.

A teenage girl is repeatedly run over by a tractor. A wife is tortured and experimented on by her husband. A forgotten, unloved boy is murdered by his sister. A reckless son is impaled by his father. A child is kidnapped and left in a closet. A girl shakes with dread. A gentle grandmother attacks her daughter. A helpless father loses his sanity. A mother buries her entire family. A nurse shrivels in the sun with a sweet teenage boy. The sweet teenage boy attacks his best friend. His best friend blows himself up. They only wanted to survive, but in the end they all died.

I come back to this soundtrack every once in a while, it never seems to get old to me. And for some reason while listening to it, it seems to remind me of a starry autumn night.

I watched shiki when I was 12 and it had such an impact on me that it still haunts me today. I’ve yet to rewatch it but it’s next in my list, because now that I’m older I think it’ll have an even deeper impact

Both Humans and Shiki have the right to fight for survival. But one thing I feel the need to mention is that a Shiki's existence is very cruel, the unbearable hunger and the need to kill because of it. Especially in the last episode where Nao Yasumori talks about how she wanted to be with her family but no one got risen. At first she thought she wanted them to become Shiki too, but later realized she wanted to go back to being Human so she could be with them. Being a Shiki is a cursed existence, and biting people to survive with the chance of them becoming Shiki too is passing on this curse. Even if you're starving, would you pass this hunger unto someone else if it meant you would get to survive? What if the Humans lost and all of the Human inhabitants of the town were killed, wouldn't the Shiki have to move anyways cause they would go insane from hunger? What would happen if the Shiki ran out of Humans to prey on, would they all starve to death? If I woke up in my grave and had to drink blood to survive I wouldn't want to kill or pass on the burden. I would ask for my food to be given, I wouldn't want to take it. Humans could donate their blood so Shiki could sustain themselves without having to bite someone. This is the only way for Humans and Shiki to live together without having to kill.
"When Tae told Kanami she was hungry, Kanami tried to make food for her, but Tae would just throw it up. Kanami accidently cut herself, and Tae tried to drink the fallen blood. Kanami then offered to give her mother her blood, and Tae tearfully agreed."
If you love someone regardless if you or they are Human or Shiki this is the only way.
