Algae continues to pop up in Sarasota Bay. This time, it’s not red tide, but it’s blue-green algae. It smells and there are things you need to know: When it comes to exposure, the Florida Department of Health recommends staying away from both. As for swimming, taking a dip in water with either algae is dangerous and not recommended. You can get rashes and eye irritation. And how about our fish friends? You need to avoid almost all shellfish that are near red tide and most fish.
