I love the contrast between Rick trying to figure out what two colors make green and then flawlessly reciting every chord tone in every mode from memory.

You are doing the musical world a great service by condensing all of this into practical digestible episodes. Pay attention folks. And to those that know this... can you also explain it this well? Great work Rick!!

Well, this time, I made it almost 3 minutes before I was totally lost

Just getting into music theory, and this came just in time for me. I'm more inspired than ever, definitely picking up the book. Thank you so much Rick.

It's good hearing this teaching. I've used so much of it over the years. I've taught piano and have always stressed the circle of 5ths. I've taught my students that to find out the key fro the key signature, in sharps, the last sharp will be 1/2 step from the key. F# is the last in G; D# is the last sharp in E. In flats, the next to the last flat is the name of the key. In two flats, Bb and Eb the key is Bb/ Bb, Eb, Ab, DB, and Gb - the key is Db. So incredible how it works. Thanks again, Rick. You rock!

It would be amazing if you put out a DVD of you going through The Beato Book in a faced paced format like this. I know it would be a major project but I would pre-order it for sure.

Now this is the kind of channel I come to YouTube for. Someone passionate and knowledgeable talking about what they love. The kind of passion that makes me want to know why they do what they do.

I’ve been a musician all my life and theory was a weak point for me for years (lacking in my early music education almost entirely sadly). I am still learning and now having found your channel, things are FINALLY clicking. I love the way you teach and light bulbs are continuously going off as I watch and take notes. I wish I could have had you teach me in person long ago. You are a fantastic teacher! Thank you so much. Times are tough right now, but I found a way to buy your Beato book just today and cannot wait to devour it. Again, thank you so much for spreading your knowledge and enthusiasm of music.

Thank you very much for this amazing explanation! After 23 years of playing guitar I now finally understand what the circle of fifths is for, and how to apply secondary and parallel chords. Thank you so much for sharing this information🙏

Wow Rick. You've helped this 65 year old, half Italian guy understand chord progressions. Memorizing them is another thing.

I've watched your other videos like this, this is absolutely your most clear concise version, your best work for beginners imo.
Plus I started painting recently and I never had a real understanding of the context of the circle of fifths but it exactly maps on to literal color-mixing, darks and brights, warm and cool etc.
Thanks!

3:03 Blue + Yellow pigment yields the color green
Yellow paint reflects most light at long wavelengths and absorbs light at short wavelengths. Because blue paint and yellow paint both reflect middle (green appearing) wavelengths when blue and yellow paint are mixed together, the mixture appears green
