Here’s a look inside my family’s 1890s Victorian home. A lot of love and care has gone into the restoration and while it is not exactly complete I thought I would share their hard work so far.

When I was a teen, I spent many nights in an old Victorian house. The owner was the youngest daughter of the original builder and owner. All the furniture was as it was when she was young. Being in her 80s, she didn't want to stay by herself. My mom would be there during the day, and I would do my homework there and spend the night. Miss Rife finally went into a care home, and her beautiful home was sold.

So lovely to see a beautiful victorian was kept with all the integrity in tact and not remuddled.

Your folks have done a wonderful job restoring this home. Later period remodeling can be retained rather than ripped out to go back to full Victorian. I like that it's been incorporated with decor items of several decades. The inlaid floors and pocket doors are so great to have intact, as many times they are gone or seriously damaged. Your folks are fortunate to have three whole fireplaces with the original (and totally fantastic!!!) character tiles. I adore the one with the birds! Fun that they included the lady in the attic. Nice tour, thank you.

The door to nowhere was a feature of many funeral homes. Caskets were brought in and out through this door.

I live in a 1908 Queen Anne Victorian in Maine, there are charms of the house's original history all throughout but it has been modernized, it's a duplex and my favorite part about it is the wrap around porch, the back patio is the original one from the 1908 days, cobble stone with a huge backyard, the landlords are turning back into a farm and it's stunning. I could not be more grateful to live in this building.

How fortunate to live in such an old, and exquisite home! My aunt & uncle lived in a house built in 1890. I loved that house, and we have so many great memories of being there.

I love your fairytale house as real home with lots of warmth and history preserved. What I love most you kept the kitchen retro and didn't try to make it modern and that just adds to it. I also love all the unique old furniture in the house.
You house is truly full of love and nurture and an inviting home!
Beautiful fireplaces with the warmth of the wood and awesome porches.
I expect you to host an Alice in wonderland tea party there and Alice and the mad hatter show up!

Wow that is a beautiful house. It’s a labor of love because the work never ends. We all seem to find our favorite place in our home, mine is my parlor next to the game room upstairs. Well gotta go fix something.

I love this house!! So nice to see a Victorian home as it should be, and not overly modernised or blandified. I think the porch that goes nowhere may have been a coffin door originally. I read somewhere that they were common features in a side parlour or dining room which would be used for the departed one to lie in state for several days. then when it came time for burial, the coffin was taken out through that door which was at a hieght that a wagon could be drawn up close to it, or coffin bearers would be able to lift it onto shoulders easily from the outer ground level. That does also tie in with your home being a funeral home at one time so may have also been used for that purpose then. I love the whimsy of the mannequin up in the cupula.

I was raised in a home made in 1900 but had to move out since owners decided to sell the home. But since then I see regular homes so boring that house had so much character and tall rooms and airy, I feel now that I’m older a home like this is calling me back. Might look for one in the future to purchase and love! Thank you for the video!
