30 years ago my whole village was displaced from up the hill to foothills in order to do the mining and supply raw material ie limestone to the nearby factory in barmana. The horrors of a botched up displacement are still fresh in my core memories. My illiterate grandfather died fighting case for full compensation which we haven't received till today. We got tap connections only this year under har ghar nal, otherwise we had muddy water from handpumps to drink at best, in summers even handpumps went dry. There are no pucca road to my village till date. I don't know where is the corporate social responsibility fund, i heard it is 50 crores. The huge mountain that was once home to us has become a mining pit like the rugged terrains of chambal. The birds have gone never to return. The butterflies flew away. The diverse flora and fauna that we have lost feels like a personal loss. There is no replanting of the thousands of trees that were crushed beneath huge boulders of limestone. Where once a huge mountain stood, there is pit just as huge only downvards. The air so polluted that its difficult to see clearly the sun the mountains. This year is especially bad, we had the least amount of rains. Trees bring rains, now trees are gone, so are rains. The amount of heat and air pollution can beat any Indian city easily. Don't sell our hills, they are home. Stop treating the trees so mercilessly that our ancestors once planted. We have always lived in harmony with nature, ours state Himachal is a special category state. The himalyas are new mountains hence not as sturdy as others, the amount of cutting and excavation is leading to never seen before hazards. The people and companies coming from outside are doing as they please in shade of politico beurocratic nexus. They throw money and do as they please. Please don't destroy our homes, the hills. I urge our government to take this as a wake up call and act accordingly. While our govt is preaching sustainable development everywhere, here it is not so.

I’ve seen my fair share of cement plants, and while pollution is a common issue, the situation depicted in this video seems particularly dire. The sheer volume of dust is almost unbelievable. I’ve experienced less severe pollution even in plants without top-tier dust collector systems.

It’s puzzling that these companies aren’t investing in effective pollution control measures. Either they’re prioritizing short-term cost savings over long-term environmental responsibility, or there’s a serious breakdown in equipment maintenance.

Environmental auditing agencies should be playing a crucial role in ensuring compliance, but it appears they’re either failing to do their job or being misled by plants during inspections.
