Your videos are priceless, and continue to be a wealth of information. I picked up a 1972 140h3 in May and have rebuilt it with my father in law, it’s my trailer mover. Nearing the end of the rebuild in July he said “what’s next?” And I replied with a 318 or 420/430 (all are somewhat rare in my part of Canada)… Fast forward a month and he calls me and says there’s a local 430 for sale (50” deck and hydraulic dump mcs), I ended up bringing it home that day. The 430 project now begins…A 140 and 430 are perhaps a bit overkill for 0.25ac but I love them :) thanks!!

This conversation makes me think about Wheel Horses. Those LT/GT's always had deep decks. They were ahead of the curve in that regard.

The sevon iron deck and the 60 HC are probibly the best decks that deere make. Cant wait for the evilotion of the john deere trctor. Thanks for another great video!

bought a 445... need to find a rear PTO kit and hopefully a loader. Awesome all-around GT.

I need suggestions. I have the chance to get a 1975 400 with 767 hours, for $1150. I also could go with a 1984 420 with 588 hours, for $1200. What would you recommend? Asking for towing and ground engaging uses.

I'd have to agree with MMRBeef on comfort of the 455 vs others. I had 5hrs seat time last week cutting about 7acres of grass with the 60" deck. I got my new Ballard Xblade kit to try on it too soon. It'd be interesting to see if mmrbeef would do or has had any experience with the 2 blades per spindle cut quality on the JD tractors. I have on my Zero turn and works great. But most times its just more enjoyable cutting on a Deere tractor. its comfy and my ZT has an air ride seat.

What do you recommend I’ve got a 430 with a 60” deck and a 260 deck should I get three point and rear pto for my 430 and sell the 60” deck?

Have you ever thought about getting a 430? They are tanks I think they are better then the 455. just my opinion.

When you get the 420 and or the 425, please show the differences with the 400 with the front attachment brackets. Maybe add the 455 into the mix.

Mr Beef, my 445 is taking a few more clicks before starting. What do you think that can be? Cam starting to go or just fuel filter needs changing? Thanks

I love your videos. Wondering if you could help me. I just used a helicoil to replace an exhaust bolt on the 316 b43e. As I was cleaning out the shavings with wd 40, it appears the fluid drains downward never filling the hole. Is the shavings draining into the cylinder?

ever see a test on mower deck belt tension, re how much effort should it take for a blade to spin against the tension of the belt on the pulley? something that comes up when you get striping or in heavier grass. heard buildup of grass underneath affects performance as well

What size are your front rib tires on your 318?

Sort of a useless comparison. I presently have a 420 60" and a 317 with a 50" deep deck. Deck width being equal, how much area you can cut is seldom measured to tractor speed as there are so many other variables. How much turning is required. Lot size. Trimming. I personally never run the engine wide open with either machine. Never have! So, the tractor speed is obviously not full. As for the steering systems, I have always preferred the 400 types to the 318/420 which in my opinion is much less responsive.
