That bag story pisses me off so much. The mom owes her daughter a new bag IMMEDIATELY. You can’t just steal someone’s possessions.

If I had a nickel for every time Shane said “the relationship you had is dead, you have to start a whole new relationship” I’d have like 65 cents probably

I had a walkman as an 8-year-old. I'm 38. My mom's bf at the time guilted me into "lending" it to him for a bit. The next time I ever brought it up and asked for it back, he completely denied ever taking it. He smoked crack. He so totally stole the only valuable possession I had as a child that was making me happy to fuel his crack habit. Like, that walkman meant so very much to me. I'm still in trauma therapy, but doing better.

The first story is a Judge Judy, worthy case! 15 year old's MOTHER stole a purse SHE EARNED with HER OWN MONEY gave it to a FREIND to borrow, who proceeded to LOSE IT? Judge Judy would have a field day!

The bag story makes me so fucking mad, especially with OP’s family trying to say she’s acting like a child. No shit! She is a child! But she seems ten times more mature than most grown ass adults I know.

"Bro, hurry up. When are you gonna propose to her?"
"I have a concept of a plan."

Regarding hall pass dude, does he genuinely think his version of a hall pass is better? Imagine your partner coming up to you and saying "Babe i want to use my hall pass from the time you cheated 5 years ago, the time I'm totally over, but i don't wanna use it normally. Instead of sleeping with this woman, I want to grow closer with her than I've ever been with you, relating to her in ways you will never comprehend. Truly connecting our souls on an incomprehensible level" brother what

I'm so glad reddit commenters took the first story seriously. Not being able to have your own things in your own home messes you up. My abuser would always make my things disappear or destroy them. My room wasn't safe either. No matter what the mother did with the bag - this is a situation ripe with abuse. Especially since she punished her kid and didn't even TRY to compensate for the loss.

I'm so glad everyone [reddit included] took the first story so seriously. There's this weird thing where people tend to treat kid's [or anyone under 20 tbh] possessions as less important and their emotions as childish and uncalled for. This one instance could easily turn into two which could turn into four which could then snowball, and I really hope that girl takes the advice about bank accounts and I wish her the best.
My mother is like this, she's admitted to looking through one of her kid's bank accounts [30s and literally has a kid], looked through my stuff as well as stole and sold them plus a bunch of other stuff. It's wild to think that multiple parents out there believe that this is completely okay and sensible behaviour, ,

the mom totally sold it. Look at the bright side, OP can now never bother with retirement for her guilt free

regarding the 4th story, as a child of divorce: don't stay only for the kids. my parents stayed together for me years after they fell out of love with each other and i would spent nights locked in my room listening to music and crying bc they were fighting again and i thought it was my fault. children deserve a real example of love at home.

On the guy who was waiting for "the right time". When you really love someone it doesn't matter how they propose but that they do it. My husband asked me over the phone (we were in a long distance relationship at the time) by saying, "What are you doing in August next year?". Did I care that it wasn't in a romantic setting or in person? No. We just celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary and though i tease him about the way he proposed, the fact of the matter is I immediately said yes.
