It’s amazing how helmet fit varies across brands. Replaced a 6 year old helmet this year and took 4 goes to find one to fit my head size/shape. All 4 had the same circumference measurement but only a Specialised fitted properly. As most shops seem to stock only a couple of brands it’s not easy to find a suitable one. More great content👍

Good info. I've had my helmet for about a year. I never thought to check for a date.

I have 3 local cycle shops near me. I trust all of them for honest, solid, reliable advice. All have told me about the 5 year rule for helmet replacement. I have found it to be good advice. Thanks for another great, informative video.

solid advice, i bought a helmet back in March and almost bought one online based on various reviews etc - but but was unable to find the one i was after in the colour i wanted...

so, i decided to nip to a local shop and glad i did as only one felt comfy on my head - one was almost like a circle too...and that was 150 quid!

i ended up buying the Troy Lee Designs A3...was mouth watering expensive tho..!

Another excellent video. I wasn’t aware of the 3 to 5 year helmet rule. Learn something new every day! How do you like the Giro helmet?

Before I spent a ridiculous amount of money on a Kask rapido and Kask Mojito which even today offer one of the most comfortable and effective helmet retentions. I tried and tested dozens of road and mountain bike helmets - And none offered a fit that would restrict movement created by a upward force over the frontal lobe - NONE !!! Bearing in mind road helmets offer the most reduced and limited rear occipital lobe protection. Best wishes and happy pedalling 🙏

What can we do with our old helmets? Do they just go to landfill? No hanging basket suggestions either please!

Thanks for the info. Checked the 200 euro helmet I bought last year in 2020 and I see the date is 2018. Ouch!!

great video, one question the cloth innards of my helmet are a bit smelly, can they washed, indeed can the whole helmet be hand washed. (I'd like to put the whole thing in the washing machine but I suspect that may not be a good idea?)

Not sure about the advice about looking at date inside helmet before buying. If the concern with age is from UV or sweat or hair oil, none of these issues apply if helmet's been sitting on a shelf or in a warehouse. By all means ask for a discount though, as it's likely that it's a model that has been replaced anyway.

I crashed last Sunday. Helmet cracked. It was ancient. Saved my life. I don't believe in the 5 year rule.
