The real benefit of getting the Mi Box is that they release constant system updates OTA.

I put a Mi Box 3 at my gran's home a few years ago and it still gets updates.

Hi all, I picked up this box because I was looking for something with a little more power and storage than the Onn 4k streaming box. I noticed the colors were not quite as crisp and clear on this box as the Onn box. I used images from my Emby server to compare the video, with both devices attached to the same tv. What I noticed as I flipped back and forth between the two boxes is that my tv displays the video output when it first connects. The Onn box was displaying in HDR10 but this box was only displaying is Dolby 1080p. Also, I have a certified HDMI 2.1 ultra cable on the Xiaomi box and only a HDMI 2.0 fast cable on the Onn box. Has anyone else noticed this?

@ChigzTech  after watching your review, I purchased the Mi TV box 2nd generation. It's working perfectly and I'm still exploring.
But, the UI is different. I am able to see only 3 tabs on top Thank you very much for the detailed review.

It is a good box and the price is what makes it one of the best streaming boxes available now. I had gen1 before and I feel gen2 is much better but still there is Xiaomi need to work on some software fixes. The ethernet should have been a must in this release I don't know why they are insisting not to encloud.

thanks again for the awesome review and superb charts!! quick noob question, i have an old gtking its nice but it cannot handle hdr10/dolby vision so i'm looking for a cheap upgrade, as my understanding from your videos, this xiaomi can handle/decode hdr10 eventhough the tv is not? but for dolby vision the tv needs to supported it? does dolby vision need tv that can suppport it or there is a player box than can handle it eventhough my tv is not ?

I own two Chromecasts but they've now been rendered useless because our internet provider telenet doesn't provide AP isolation on the modem. My old provider, Vodafone, allowed me to disable guest.mode Via the app but Telenet just told me to get lost. I was wondering if you had any idea if this device has similar issues? Do you happen to have a modem/router that has guest mode/AP isolation enabled? Thank you ❤
