EDGE in Tech: Smart Transportation
Показать описание
In 2011 Marc Andressan said “software is eating the world”. He argued that software was transforming every industry. The transportation sector has been slow to feel the impacts of new technology. However, urbanization is requiring new approaches to mobility and the availability of data from sensors is more prevalent than ever before. As a result we are seeing an emerging ecosystem of creative digital solutions to these new challenges.
When we talk about improving mobility, it becomes complex quite quickly. Who are we optimizing the flow of travel for ... movement of people or movement of products? How do we make mobility systems more equitable? How do we reduce the use of single occupancy vehicles to reduce emissions and fuel use? Where does autonomous mobility fit in?
This expert panel is assembled to address some of the real-world issues of the transforming transportation sector.
Join Dr Jane Macfarlane from UC Berkeley's Institute of Transportation and speakers Gillian Gillett, Carla Mays, Tina Samartinean, and Michelle Avary for this deep dive into smart transportation and next-generation systems for sustainable, livable cities using data analytics and AI.
Moderator:
Dr. Jane Macfarlane, Executive Director Smart Cities, Institute of Transportation Studies, UC Berkeley
Panelists:
Gillian Gillett, Program Manager, California Integrated Mobility Caltrans
Carla Mays, Co-Founder, Head of Global Research SmartCohort
Tina Samartinean, Employee and Business Development Administrator Arizona Department of Transportation
Michelle Avary, VP Product Strategy and Government Affairs, North America Einride
Now in its seventh year, the annual Diversity in Tech Symposium (formerly Women in Tech) highlights the experiences of experts working to build smarter tech for a resilient future. Panels span aviation, manufacturing, water management, indoor air quality, national security, transportation, smart cities and semiconductors. This event also features the EDGE in Tech Initiative Athena Awards, recognizing those who have championed the advancement of women and people of color in technology.
Thank you to the symposium sponsors and supporters: Lam Research, Siemens, Agilent, Sandia National Labs, UC Davis College of Engineering and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, UC Santa Cruz’s Baskin Engineering, the IoT4Ag Program at UC Merced, and the Institute for Transportation Studies at UC Berkeley, and philanthropist Carla Itzkowich, who made a generous contribution in honor of her father.
