Google would just send them to the reviewers for free

We ordered our daughter a new 3A and Google threw in a Google Home for free. Thought that was a good deal. I'm in the UK though - not sure if it's the same everywhere...

you gotta be thankful to get a gift card tho .. I know some of us never heard of gifts and still getting 5W charger in the box.

I was a fan of the Nexus ever since the line was born. Always up-to-date software was a big deal back then. I loved the Nexus 4, managed to get my hands on the Nexus 5 and am still rockin' the Nexus 6P. Software is what it was all about, but the design and specs were't too bad either. The thing is, those software updates are only supported for 2yrs, even on Google's own devices and that just rubs me the wrong way. Even worse, some OEMs just suck at updates. I've been waiting, hoping, dreaming for years that Google is going to figure out a way arround Android fragmentation so that i don't have to relly on Googles devices in order to keep my Android bugs free and running smoothly.
Pixel devices have been expensive ever since the first one lounched. They were and still are very hard to get in my part of Europe. Even if i wanted to get one, there is no support afterwards. If i bought a Samsung phone, i could almost find parts in a corner kiosk, next to Kit Kats and bubble gums.
So, without software support (after two years), and no hardware support, and a high price tag, and the fact that phones like the K20 Pro exist now, google devices are just no longer worth the hastle for me. Sorry Nexus/Pixel, it's been fun, but i think we'll have to part ways soon.

Just wait until November to buy it on eBay for $300 less. They will be on big sale especially for Black Friday 2019

I totally agree with this video. I currently have a pixel 2XL and would like to upgrade this year. But I will definitely wait to see if there will be any sales on the 4.

I always wait. Want to see what the people who purchased theirs and lived with them a while have to say before I buy.

In UK through third part phone shops, you got a Google home when you pre-ordered the Pixel 3. The pixel 3A through every shop, you got a 300 dollar Chromebook. The pixel 4 this time round is rumoured to have either a Chromebook or a Sonos Speaker.
I'm good getting all these things. Sell it to make up for the upfront cost of the phone.

I feel you on the discounts. I returned my 3XL within the return window and purchased it again a month or two later for $650 from the Google Store.

I was just like you: a Google fanboy. Aside from a few side affairs, I was #teamNexus and got the OG Pixel. I kept that Pixel from launch until just a few months ago, when I picked up the P30 Pro. I was pretty much done with the Google way of doing things. First of all, the updates just aren't that groundbreaking anymore. Sure, when the Nexus phones were out I didn't care that the cameras were second rate because I was guaranteed to get the newest version of Android, and back then that meant something. Android was still growing up, so each update brought massive improvements in features, GUI, and overall user experience.
By the time I got the Pixel, I was starting to realize that the updates just weren't bringing massive changes. And hey, that in of itself is a good thing. It means Android is now a mature platform; but, it also means that the playing field is now leveled, and in some ways leans in favour of non-Google devices. Huawei, OnePlus, and Samsung phones offer excellent value for your money because of the extra features they bring with them. Sure, some of the features you will never use, but many of them you will. In fact, these features are often showing up on non-Google phones before the Pixels get them (Still waiting on that system wide dark mode, guys?).
My point is that having the latest version of Android all the time just isn't as important anymore. It's why I'm not overly concerned that my Huawei P30 Pro very well may stop at Android Q. By the time my phone was going to get Android R I'd likely be ready to upgrade, nor would I likely be missing any major feature sets. And this is all assuming the Huawei ban doesn't get worked out - whole other discussion.

I was going to pre order the Pixel 4 but after watching this video, I don't know now . You made good points .

6) In Australia when you pre order you are charged a foreign transaction fee as the Australian Google payment processor for Pixels is in HK or Singapore. You pay an extra 1%.
7) In Australia they arrive in the stores in the release day. Before your pre order arrives. And cheaper at RRP, see above. Oh, even for Pixel 1, there was no freebies for the pre orders.

I still have the Pixel 2. I love it and never felt the urge to get the Pixel 3. (I've even grown to love my Bluetooth headphones) But I'm eager to hear about the Pixel 4 but won't buy it at launch.
HassanRadwan
I will be getting the 4, though I will wait a bit for deals maybe even wait till Christmas time to get it. Have Pixel XL currently but the battery is almost done.
wiggiegone
I felt the same way for the first time after preordering the S10. They used to make you feel like you were the elect elite for preordering and rewarded you for it. And the hype from the online tech community and media was enjoyable because you felt like you were in this exclusive club and had a VIP pass. Now they dont....
Now all the average preorder person gets is a few days of the device a head stores, and the community raves for maybe a week or two, and thats it. EVERYBODY moves on and forgets about the new X device. Then the sales flood in. And it's WAAAAY too soon as you end up hating yourself for allowing yourself to be ripped off. And companies are going to learn the hard way that that the pre-order experience has been cheapened and now thus short, negative, and overpriced for its cost.

That was exactly what i had in my mind too, Especially Google will likely have a promo of $200 within 3 months of its launch when the sales starts to really decline. It was in the case for pixel 2/3. Also i don't care about wireless charging and waterproof (Maybe this one), It worth waiting for 3 months to grab that promo or they may release a 4A.
benetthomasjohn
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one that was irritated that they didn't give much incentive for preordering and dropping the price a couple weeks after! The pixel 3xl is my first pixel phone so I was so excited, but I definitely could have waited.
