Battlefield 3 is 14 years old, but does not look bad at all for it's age.

In contrast, GoldenEye 007 for N64 released in 1997, 14 years before BF3 released. Needless to say that the graphical jump between 1997 and 2011 was MASSIVE. I mean it's not even close. I think it's fair to say that we've reached a plateau in terms of graphics.

Looks great, no frame generation, no upscaling, 300 fps in 4k. This is absolutely impressive. I don't care about raytracing if it doesn't run as smooth as this without AI crutches.

I played hundreds of hours on BF3. I think I started on a dual core e1200 (overclocked to 3.4ghz from 1.6ghz stock) and a 8600gt. Played at 1024 x 768 on low. 25-35fps. Good times. Good video.

Been playing Battlefield 4 lately, it and this game still really stand the test of time. Absolutely gorgeous games DICE made. If you were to release them now with some raytracing everyone would be praising the graphics still.

Battlefield 1942 came out 9 years before Battlefield 3. Battlefield 2042 came out 10 years after BF3. In approximately the same interval of time, the upgrade in visuals, gameplay, QoL, performance and features has been minimal for 2042 compared to BF3, with even a noticeable downgrade in some aspects, all at the cost of needing extremely expensive hardware to run. This is the diminishing returns era of PC gaming.

Ah, Battlefield 3. I remember having a 1920x1080 monitor and I wanted to play the multiplayer soo much that I had to play at 640x360p just to get ~50 fps. All the player names were blurry and I could only really play Metro Conquest and Canals TDM, other maps I didn't have the performance to push through as much. The momories I had with the game, even to this day they were enjoyable, and now I can play the game at like 8K without an issue! Time flies! 9500 GT FOR THE WIN!

Battlefield 3 looked amazing for it's time because DICE went back to it's roots with the PC version being the lead platform. It's why there are also jets and you can actually go prone again! It's a massive upgrade from Bad Company 2 THAT CAME ONLY A YEAR BEFORE IT.

The fast this 13 year old game doesn't break it's engine with modern hardware speaks volumes to DICE/Frostbite optimization at the time. We have lost so much in so little time and I'm willing to say internet and social media did it.
