Today I am sewing a 1930s (1936 to be precise) evening gown pattern with the most expensive fabric I have in my stash. It is a beautiful Elie Saab silk that I picked up in Rome. I used a reproduction sewing pattern by Lady Marlowe number M-9043.

I don't know why, but you wearing the mock up while cutting into the silk fabric is the cutest thing ever.

I’ve been binge watching your videos the last 2 weeks or so and I usually don’t leave comments cause someone else answers the question, but I do want to mention that the Singer walking foot for almost every other user I’ve encountered does not like it and it does not work well / breaks. I’m not sure of a comparable one to use cause I’m a Janome / Brother user and I love their walking foots. Unfortunately Singer walking foot is a waste of money 😢 I very much enjoy all your makes, I hope your doing well currently 😊

Hi Haley Marie. The dress looked stunning and the material you use made it look even better than your mock up. One you could wear to all your weddings.

I hate my walking foot so bought just a roller foot and that works great! I find that my walking foot snags whatever material I am sewing.

Beautiful! It is so perfect for Spring!
If you wanted to make the hem longer, you could add a ruffle along the bottom seam. It might weigh it down a little at the hem, affecting the flowiness of the dress a little, but it is an option.

Started the video and felt inspired. Hearing that the walking foot is not magic I folded up my expensive silk fabric and put it back in my stash. I'm not ready!

You did an amazing job with this dress! It's perfect for the dreamy, floaty fabric. I think the length is perfect, it makes it more afternoon or semi formal appropriate.

The dress is lovely! What astonishingly beautiful silk. Another time you might try the hack of laying a strip of tissue paper over slippery fabric and sew the seam through the tissue paper. You then tear it away and voila, a bubble-free seam.

And directly after posting this, I sorted the comments by date and discovered that in the last 5 comments, 4 other people used that exact word 😂

One of the only things I know about sewing is what a bitch it is to work with slippery or stretchy fabrics like silks, satins and Lycra. You did a great job with this, I didn’t see bunching at the seams! Beautiful dress!

The sleeves on the cover art look very stiff, you made it look much more flowy and magical.

It turned out beautifully.
You have prob been sewing alot longer than me but I did throw myself in the deep end and decided after only making 2 items of clothes to make my daughters prom dress and alot of the fabric is satin organza taffeta ect and I found setting the tension to 3 using a 3-3.5 stitch length worked best also a walking foot really is for lots of layers mainly used for quilting to evenly feed the several layers through. But you might wanna try a knit foot it's a baby walking foot to a degree less bulky and easy to swap and change as it just snaps on also for slipper fabrics sometimes a Teflon foot can help.

Also a tip which u prob no before hemming a dress/skirt it is advised to let it hang over night so that it stretches as much as it will when worn as the bias will stretch and measure from the floor up not the waist down will help create a more even hem so you trim the hem while it's hanging for a even finish

Also in the case of the right needle for the fabric any silk or satin you should use a microtex needle

I understand about the kids. Sometimes if the neighbor kids are outside I won't even go get my mail.
