So I'm guessing someone was trying to make an anchor or a tie-off point. Looks like they needed the rocks for weight, the suitcase to move it on land easier, and the duct tape to keep it from coming apart. I'm glad it wasn't anything nefarious. I'm guessing that somewhere out there is some dude who went through a lot of trouble who is griping and complaining as he watches you guys dismantling his awesome contraption. LOL!

Now the REAL winner here is that SONAR! Holy smokes, that thing is amazing!

I think it's likely a homemade boat anchor -- and perhaps the strength of the current in that area is the reason. Or, it could be a weight that had been attached to something else someone didn't want to come to the surface. Still potentially creepy, but likely not.

What if the suitcase full of rocks was a weight for something else? The other one could be the same thing, but definitely ruling out the one still in the waster as a possibility for something they were trying to throw away is a must.
