I have used oil paints before but I have never tried painting alla prima, in one sitting, before. This was a challenge for me as it's so different to my usual style of working. I made some mistakes but I also learned some things along the way that I thought I would share with you in this video.

Love the loose paintings. They are far more interesting seeing the brush strokes than the tight photo type

Putting down thin paint first really helps me with the muddies and always wiping your brush after wash stroke. Beautiful picture!

A tip someone once told me was to not try painting with the brush, paint with the PAINT on the brush…if that makes sense. This was a game changer for my artwork.
I was acrylic, then tried oil…now I’m 90 percent oil…be careful, this could happen to you! Lol!

Really like the painting, and it is great for a first Alla Prima painting. Making the move from acrylic to oil defiantly requires a different way of thinking and applying the paint. A lot of people don't care for the slower drying time of oil, but that really is it's great be surprised if you do many more oil paintings and then do an acrylic painting, the quick drying time of acrylic can become very frustrating.

The only tip for Alla Prima oil painting The MORE you do it, the better it gets, and the more you will enjoy it.

Looking forward to seeing more oil painting on your channel.

Oh, I love Alla Prima! Good luck! Yep, brushes go big to small, like focus. My tip is cotton buds for removing little bits of paint where needed and transparent paint washes or glazes for background colour and uniform colour where needed!

I really like this one Daniel, it lends itsef to being sightly abstract too and maybe more painterly . I also think your brush strokes are important with this and of course the thickness of the oils. Choosing the right reference is also important . But i definately think you should of tinted the canvas, that white canvas would of sent me into overload lol !!

Crelando was the first set of acrylic paints I started with. They are a cheaper brand. Now I use Windsor Newton. Tgey had some very vibrant colours.

Thank you for this video, I have only used acrylic's, some mixed media & want to try oils so bad, as I love the look. This video explained so much, more paint on brush & to lay down color, not brush it in. I just found your channel, love the acrylic glazing video, it was great. Im sub'd. You're so talented!!! Thanks again for sharing

Find a good mixing medium you like it will be much easier. It will blend much easier. I ❤️ oils I sometimes use acrylic as a under painting and oil on top much faster and a great result.

Stunning lad. I only try oils if I can stick to the palette knife only - I hate the cleaning of oil brushes! That said did you use any oil medium?
Sadly I'm not a fan of that red knife work towards the end - seems a tad out of place!

Have you tried Lascaux acrylic paint? It's my favorite.
