Germany aligns itself with the EU statement.
Germany continues to be deeply concerned about the human rights situation in Iran. Consistent and grave human rights violations by the Iranian authorities severely affect Iranians, women and members of minority groups in particular. Girls must be able to attend school without any fear – allegations of poisoning must be investigated thoroughly.
We call on the Iranian authorities to strictly abide by the principles enshrined in the ICCPR, to which Iran is a party.
Germany calls upon Iran to immediately suspend the pronouncement and execution of the death penalty and to provide due process to all detainees. We furthermore call upon the Iranian authorities to cease the widespread policy of arbitrary detention, torture and other inhumane treatment.
We condemn the continuing restriction of freedom of information and expression, as well as the continuing repression of civil society activists and journalists in Iran and of those abroad.
Germany reiterates its unwavering support to the mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur and the Independent FFM and urges the Iranian authorities to grant them access to the country and to cooperate.
