Art - Is It Bullshit? - Just A Thought #15

Caffeinated comedy this time talking about art. So is it a slag heap of pretentious decadence occupied by people who are either just crazy or bona fide frauds, or is a legitimate expression of thought and feeling that anyone can do with or without any tool, including a grouting gun.

So is art just bullshit or not?

I must be by nature a very cynical person because these videos really resonate with me. I started off my college career with an associate degree in advertising design. Then I went to university and started in the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I made it a whole semester before I became so sick of all the "artsy fartsy" people I had to deal with that I changed over to a joint advertising, public relations and business management degree. Honestly, that wasn't much better, but at least it was all grounded in the real world. Art is in the eye of the beholder. I've done art for art's sake and I've done commercial art... the latter was far better received and more satisfying.

This video seems to me an example of the artistic phenomenon known as 'fatal facility': amazing skill in reeling it off so fast, but it makes the art experience worse because it's really hard to follow.

so Art is Art, so long as someone calls it Art, but it's definitely not Art if it's Commercialised Art for a profit, but other "Art" Art can be sold for a profit ...

I think real art involves extraordinary talent and extraordinary effort. By this standard, even the most mediocre novelist is superior to Damien Hurst (or practically any other prominent modern artist).
