Seeing Gundam mentioned on the news is crazy

As a woman with autism, the girl in this video is so sweet. I'm so glad she got to speak and share her joy <3

I love seeing nerd culture accurately represented in the news and mainstream media. As a comic collector a lot of news coverage I have seen tends to be calling us sweaty nerds who live in our moms basements while a newscaster who doesn't know anything about the topics rambles forever. This segment was perfect because the news casters seemed to have not known too much about the topic so they let the fans and owners explain it to the viewers without attempting to shame or criticize them. well done 👏

Gunpla is Freedom!
Plus, the Gundam Crocs are sweet.

If you're new to this, whatever you do, don't ever call them Transformers. Gundam started in 1979, Transformers was 1984.

I was at the Gundam Base in Yokohama last November before turning 50 years old. I felt like I was a kid again.

Love the Fat Electrician’s “S. T. E. A. L.” shirt on one of the interviewees

Such a fun hobby. Plus the engineering/tooling behind the models is so far advanced compared to traditional scale model cars or aircraft that you don't even need glue, paint, or special tools to make the pieces fit properly.

Gundam was actually originally a failed anime ratings wise in 1979 to 1980 when it first came out, but it was the Gunpla model kits that resurged the anime's popularity.

That's why it literally took five whole years for a sequel show to be made (Z Gundam, which came out in 1985) but by then Gundam has blow up mainly because of the model kits and toys

Went to it when it was in Orland Park, and it was honestly pretty cool! Good way to find people interested in Gundam not far from you, plus some of the exclusives in the shop were cool. Got two translucent ones

Hey I was at this exact event. I remember tons of the people in this vid. Unfortunately I wasn't in it the video except for a sec in the background but you could only see my arm waving the fans they gave us. But you can see my friend in the neon yellow shirt. It was fun and my friend accidentally bought 2 of the same $60 Gunpla kits.

If you think about it this is a very brilliant idea because they can setup shop without most of the overhead of a brick and mortar store. I hope they make this an annual or biannual event.
