Codas, Clicks, and Traveling Sperm Whales

Показать описание
Sperm whales express themselves via combinations of clicks that identify themselves as clan and family members, and as individuals. The most common click-combinations are called codas, which represent clan affiliation. Members of a familiar blended family from the Eastern Caribbean clan exchange codas (1+1+3) as they travel. Pinchy, Fingers, Canopener, Digit, and Knife affectionately glide together while exchanging codas.

Do you physically feel their clicks hit you, Susan?

Love these creatures so much. That swim seemed so peaceful and serene. I can't wait to swim with them. Will be respectful and allow them to approach me on their own terms if they decide to do so. They should be the ones to initiate contact, not us.

May I ask.. do you feel that the whales are familiar with you enough to be that close? In your mind, did you try sending your clicks while you were following? Being among the world's largest creatures fascinates me 🤩🐋💗 There's a fellow on a PBS series where one video titled, "What it's like to be surrounded by whales" reminds me of this. 🥰 You are blessed to be able to be among the pod, miss Susan Bird, and thanks for sharing this 🙏
