Показать описание
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio was heckled at a memorial held for George Floyd in Brooklyn on Thursday. He was booed as he attempted to take the podium to speak, and his wife Chirlane McCray took over the mic to address protesters. Upon his second attempt, his speech was drowned out by the crowds chanting things including "defund the police."
De Blasio spoke about white privilege and the racism communities of colour experiences in everyday society in America, promising changes in the NYPD in the city "once and for all."
Hundreds of people showed up to Cadman Plaza where the memorial would turn into a march through the streets of Brooklyn.
Earlier this week, de Blasio said he expects the city's curfew to be lifted next week as the city enters the first phase of reopening after coronavirus lockdown.
Protests continue across the U.S. over the death of Floyd, a Black man who died in police custody after video emerged of a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on his neck for several minutes while he pleaded for air.
